I've known this girl for several months now and I started developing feelings for her about 2 months ago. Since then I've asked her out twice... Both resulting in the disappointing "I'm not ready to date" explanation. Idk if she was just trying to be nice and spare my feelings because she's not interested or if she really is telling the truth and isn't ready to date (I'm a junior in high school, she's a freshman) but I feel like it's just a waste of time to keep chasing her. I asked her if we could hang out as friends and she accepted but I know that's not gonna lead anywhere. She's not going to miraculously develop feelings right? I really like her but it almost seems like nothing is gonna work at this point. All my friends are telling me to move on but I've never felt like this about someone before. Anyways, what I'm asking is how I get over this and move on (or if I should move on at all).

You've answered your own question. You know nothing is going to happen. You like her but she doesn't like you. That happens sometimes, it sucks but it happens. We've all been there. If it's too hard for you to be friends, don't make her think a normal friendship is possible when it isn't. You will get over her. Best way is to start crushing on someone new.

I would move on. This has happened to me... it's painful but you have to accept the reality, the sooner the better because then you can get back to normal. And if you can't move on, you still will have a year still with her at your school.

If you really really like her then it'd be worth it to wait it out for you. But the age gap is working against you. You might graduate before she's ready lol
