I'm no leftist, but this coalition keeps on outdoing itself. À la lanterne! (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%80_la_lanterne)

(ROTW and this subforum are leaving the end of unusual low activity I hope!)

Israeli politics keeps its 'interesting' facade as always.

Are you referring to Lieberman who should be strung up? (Hope I assumed correctly.)

Him and our dearest prime minister. And the interior minister while we're at it. I would've never imagined a day would come when I would pray for Labour to join the coalition.

Netanyahu should be gone too? (Final clarification.)

Of course. The idiot would sell his own mother for more power.

Netanyahu strikes me as the kosher version of Ted Cruz, and almost as creepy.

that must be why my mom is a huge fan of both.

Oh, this Minister of Defence is probably better than our former one, ours was a former coffee smuggler (that was a thing in Serbia) who is doubted to have finished highschool. There are articles confirming that.

Wasn't Israel socialist-ish during its early days? I'm not sure but before it was close to the US, Israel had ties to USSR no?

This new guy scares me though. I feel that he could destabilise the region even more if he was actually competent in military matters. I feel the new minister will probably just make noise for the media. This will make it so the real issues do get ignored, which to me, is just as bad in some ways.

Also, there's been a lot of nationalists getting into important positions recently. European Parliaments, the Philippines, maybe US (God forbid), and now Israel. The world is heating up it seems.

During the 1948 war we were under a Western embargo, but Czechoslovakia sold us the vital weapons. By 1956 already it was clear that Israel was firmly within the NATO camp.

We need competence, not a bumbling populist fool. We need military competence both for war (likely) and peace (unlikely).

I've got no problem with Nationalists. I'm a nationalist myself. What I have a problem with is incompetent populists.

Nationalism (or any other passionate ideology) can result in conflict and misunderstanding in my view. This is most true if the person is either extreme, incompetent, or unpredictable. This man appears to be all three which is why I'm against him.

True, but any ideology, including democracy and egalitarianism, can very well lead to bloody consequences. My point is not to pin it on the general ideology, but on the man.

Well, I wish you kuck and hope that the guy doesn't fuck up much. Our former Minister of Defence cost 7 people their lives for a publicity stunt. He got fired when he commented on a crouchibg female journalist: I love it when journalists go down on me.
