Not sure, but ti could be the fact that you don't have a foreskin protecting your head from abrasive friction. A good precaution might be to use lube, even just on the head.

It is just a matter of being rough and causing some irritation. When I had foreskin, the inner lining of it (which becomes exposed when you pull it back) could become irritated depending on how I went at it, so it is not just a matter of cut vs uncut.
