I got inspired by Huxleys "The doors of perception", were he describes the mescaline experience and the insight it gives him.
Anyways, do you have an opinion on psychedelic drugs and their induced hallucinations? Do you think they can "broaden" our understanding of the world?

I don't think it necessarily "opens your mind" or gives you insight to the universe. But I do believe psychedelics can allow you to think about things you don't generally think about, or think about things in a different way than you normally do. I think the whole "expand your mind" thing is mostly an excuse to trip balls. Have you ever met someone who has tripped on too much acid, or somebody who is tripping on acid? Someone who is tripping on acid probably thinks they sound like a prophet, when in reality they sound pretty ridiculous and speak in broken up speech depending on how much they are tripping. Someone who has done too much acid in their lives is likely going to be pretty fried. Someone I know through my family did way too much acid in the 60's and it's a wonder that he can even remember his name, because he is pretty fried. Sometimes you'll catch him just staring off into space with his mouth hanging open and a stupid look on his face. Sounds pretty enriching, right?

They are a really powerful too and I feel they have been influential or responsible in people finding 'new land' in fields of science, philosophy, religion, literature and so on, but all powerful tools have a great capacity to be abused and therefore cause harm.
I draw parallel to nuclear fission - great way of getting energy, a great pathway to considering nuclear fusion, a great way to accidentally pollute a huge region after plant meltdown, and a great way to destroy an enemy society and/or your own.
More potency tends to need more care and responsibility, so I'm generally fine with psychedelic/psychotropics within the context of this if they are used wisely.
So basically yes, they can broaden our horizons of the world. Be careful though.

I believe that psychedelics give the user the ability to perceive reality differently. It allows for a different worldview to take hold.

I think that psychedelic drugs can definitely cause hallucinations, and people can perceive the world differently, and can consequently both benefit and cause drawbacks for the person who uses it.

psilocybin mushrooms have been shown to reduce negative emotions within the amygdala. I am planning on microdosing this for 6 months to see how it effects my mental state. I'm hoping my brain will "rewire" itself or at least alter my behavior to become more congruent compared to my peers. I don't care about tripping.
