Prince, the legendary musician who brought us countless hits, such as “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry,” has died. He was 57.

The singer’s publicist confirmed the tragic news to The Huffington Post and The Associated Press. No additional information is known at this time.

TMZ was the first to report the news of his death.

The award-winning artist died on Thursday at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota. The cause of death has yet to be released.

Earlier this week, the performer was treated for the flu after his plane made an emergency landing.

A representative for Prince told TMZ that the singer was feeling under the weather during his shows last week and began to feel worse on the plane. After the emergency landing, he was treated at a hospital and released three hours later.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

This is significant to me because Prince lived in Chanhassen, Minnesota which is only 20 miles from where I live. Rest in piece, Prince.

Big loss. Even though I've never listened to his music, he's been loved by many close to me. Rest In Peace

RIP Prince. Love Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret and who doesn't love Kiss? Truly a great artist.

He was a bit eccentric at times, but a great musical talent. I remember reading somewhere that he could play dozens of instruments, and recorded a lot of his music by himself.

2016 has been a dark year for the music industry. Lemmy (late december 2015 but yeah), David Bowie, and now Prince. RIP you legend.

How are more people not talking about this!?!?! It is truly a tragic loss. He was one of the best concerts I ever saw and an incredible guitarist.

He's really talented. He also inspired various musicians that I look up to. It's a tragic loss.

Rest In Peace. <3
