Storm Darwin and its hurricane-force 100 mph winds swept through Ireland on Wednesday, leaving close to 215,000 homes without power, felling thousands of trees, and ripping the roofs off buildings.

Met Éireann, Ireland’s national weather service, issued red alerts for counties Cork and Kerry, which were among the first to be hit as Darwin reached Ireland’s shores, and for much of Leinster. Orange alerts were issued for counties Clare, Galway, Limerick, Mayo and Waterford.

Met Éireann has issued a “status red” alert, with damaging gusts of between 120 to 150km/h expected in some parts of the country.
Here are updates from around the country on what’s happening.

I'm in a red alert area and my town looks like a hurricane zone atm. On the plus side no one can leave their house so school is closed for the Easter exams and the internet has come back (though the connection is patchy) :yeah:

I bet you knew I would reply to this ;)
And yes, it's windy as all fuck out there today. I walk to school everyday, and being the lightweight little sprite I am, I was almost swept off into the extensive mass of grey cotton wool that is the Irish sky....
I know loads of people who have suffered damage of some kind, I'm just lucky to be tucked away in a little housing estate in an uphill area .
On the upside, it's a great excuse to snuggle up under a duvet on the couch and watch Takeshi's Castle while eating Keogh's Crisps :3

It was interesting to listen to Dublins airport ATC and hear a Go-Around & windshield report every 2 minutes. Gusts of about 60 knots yesterday.

If the electricity comes back before the storm ends I'll charge my phone and take a picture of the view from my window :P I've never seen weather this bad.

It's settled down here a bit. Still soaking but the Wind has ceased for a while. My hair looks like something a cat would regurgitate tho...

I hope everyone is safe during the storms. I have seen a couple of hurricanes here and they are real powerful and nothing to fool about in.

I also have been to the counties affected and have distant cousins that live there and hope there won't be too much damage.
