Student exchange, anyone?

I am making the difficult decision wheather to go on a yearly student exchange in France. I cannot pick the family, school or area, and I am not allowed to visit family.
I am rather positive about going. What are you thoughts? If you have ever been on something like that, can you please share your experiences?
My French is crap, BTW.

Do it :D It would be a wonderful experience. Your French will get better, your understanding of the culture will get better, and you'll be able to experience and see a lot of new things.
