View Full Version : Feeling guilty of masturbating

Admit it. Everyone masturbates. Not everyone does it everyday but everyone has at least once in some point of their life. It's completely normal and in fact, healthy. But does anyone actually feel guilty about masturbating? I mean, because of religious reasons? I know, I do.
I was brought up as a Christian and I AM a Christian. And because of religious purposes I feel extremely "guilty" about masturbating. I in the past made many promises that I sadly could not keep. I however have planned on staying virgin until marriage. I was wondering do any of you ever feel the same?

Hiya cupcake you should not be feeling guilty about masturbating because you are a Christian. You could be doing a lot worse things. So please don't let it bother you. It's great to hear you plan to stay a virgin until you get married :) it's just a pity more girls would not do the same. I hope it all works out well for you. By the way I am a Catholic as are all my family I masturbate quite a lot and we are also naturists and it don't bother mum or me.

Thanks so much! :) it does however, state in the bible about committing adultery and it is a sin to think about sex. Masturbating isn't a sin but it's impossible to masturnate without thinking of sex lol

I've never felt guilty about it, I think I would feel more guilty for getting pregnant if I couldn't handle the horniness, lol

I'm not the authority in religion, but thinking about anything shouldn't be a sin in my books, thinking and acting out are completely different even in human made laws...I know you may not relate to it but my motto is if you're not making anyone else unhappy by doing something then it can't be bad right?

Hmm. Neledis... your last sentence is a bit like the Wiccan "motto" - certainly nothing like Christian. (Cupcake was referring to Matthew 5:27-28.) [FUll disclosure. I am a Christian, even if not a very good one.]

I understand and sometimes I feel guilty about doing it and I'm a Christian too. I think what some people in the church get all worked up about, is masturbation being fun and leading to sex.
My mom told me that it's normal and healthy and not to feel guilty lol

I always heard that applied to boys and spilling their seed....but I'm not really Christian. I do not feel bad about it at all. Plus the way I look at it is that the bible is very old and may be a little out of date. I don't think there is anything wrong with masturbating

It's normal to feel guilty about it, but you need to understand that it's normal to masturbate. I don't care what anybody says EVERYONE MASTURBATES. If they told you they didn't they would be lying. Even the fuck in pope masturbates...

Just look at this site. EVERYBODY masturbates and some do it a lot.
Don't be ashamed. It's not hurting anyone. It is normal.

Okay. There are two sides of me when it comes to this - either I'm too horny to care or I'm ridiculously guilty.
I think both society where I live and my family and religion hold some serious things as to why I have these two sides. Where I live and go to school, it is disgusting to other people if girls masturbate. I'm not gonna lie, I don't really care - it's natural. I'm gonna do it whether they like it or not and it's my own body to explore. Secondly, I've grown up with members of my family as very religious and I too have picked it up. Don't get me wrong, I like being christian but it's another thing that puts me "in the wrong". There have been times when it's been late and I've done it (whilst also talking to someone else about it ) and I've woken up the next morning like "ohhhhh myyyy gooodddnessssss what have I done". But the more I've done it, the more I've gotten less like that. As I said before, it's completely natural for us to do it and it's not like you're committing adultery or anything.

I'm a Christian and I don't feel guilty. In my mind it's either I masturbate, or don't and instead go out and have sex, which I would not do with just anyone. So it's gotta be the first option! I don't see anything wrong with it.

Never once. I abandoned religion years ago and haven't looked back. Anyone who tells anyone else that they should feel guilty about masterbation should be ashamed of them self.

I feel guilty at times but I just tell myself it's natural to do it. Part of it is that it's such a private thing. I don't talk to my mother about it - she probably guesses that I do it. I can't even imagine admitting to my father that I do - even though I'm sure he guesses also. What has helped me is talking to my older sister. She just says if you want to do it.

Why do you feel guilty? You feel like it's wrong? It's so not. It's natural and healthy and beautiful.

I used too, but since I kept breaking promises which then stacked into a lie on top of "sexual immorality".
I decided I would just be honest and consider myself evil as per the bible's definitions and if I felt the urge to repent, then it would be genuine at that future time to hopefully be "born again".
Also in truth, the bible really doesn't have verses that in the original language address female masturbation.
So maybe we're off the hook....dunno.
Interpretation of those literal broad meaning verses has lead to the modern platform from which our families base their moral structure, which when we fail to meet and where we derive guilt from.
So there might not be a foundation for guilt or shame.
It's also interesting to note that in some sects of Judaism (and Christianity originated from that culture) it's even unclean to touch a woman and that even if married the couple is dirty even after marital sex and has to go through a 24 Hour cleansing period.
So I've never met a pastor or catholic father who can can fluidly go up in down the complete anthology of the Catholic or Christian faith starting from Judaism, and can explain ALL of the split-offs and different interpretations and also double-down about why at the end of the day the specific view he preaches is the correct one.
Since I haven't found a church like that, I've basically come to the view that there is no need to harm my mental health when religion doesn't even know why it exists and how it differentiates it's own history.
I'm not against God, it's just I need a stronger "pastor" who can illuminate the way, and until then I'll reside happily in darkness.

I started masturbating, like creepy young, so I did feel bad about it, I stopped for about six months to a year, and afterwards I was like "What is guilt? I've never heard of such a thing."

You should absolutely not feel ashamaed or guilty. You did nothing wrong. Everyone does it, pretty much. It's not a big deal.
