Friends ex talking to me???

A close friend of mine has just come out of a 6 month (ish) long relationship. Her boyfriend left her and it has a profound affect on her.

About two weeks after they broke up, and a week after the two had last spoke. He messaged me, just to have a general chat, I spoke to him seeing as we had always got along and I didn't think it far to not talk to him just because they broke up.

Im on the fence about whether or not I should tell my friend. On one hand, its unfair that he left her and now hardly talks to her yet talks to me? Which makes me think I should let her know.

On the other hand, he has his own life and can talk to who he wants?

Also im kind of concerned that telling her will upset her and harm her (she recently harmed herself because of the situation with her ex), while also being concerned that if she finds out from someone other than me she will be angry?

Maybe mention to her he messaged you. I would completely stop talking to him if I were you. That's just my opinion. If you keep talking to him, you have to tell her. If you stop talking to him, you don't need to tell her although you probably should.

I would eventually tell her but not until I thought that she was able to cope with hearing about it. Obviously I don't know the whole situation but from what I've hear, you should probably leave it until you can talk comfortable about him with her

Out of loyalty to a close friend, my opinion is that you should stop talking to him. You even say that if your friend knew, it would hurt or harm her. Why would you want to do anything that would hurt or harm a close friend?
And, what if she was doing this to you? How would you feel?
