"Israel Kristal is 112 years and 178 days old. That's quite an achievement.*On*Friday, representatives of Guinness World Records*came to his home in Haifa, Israel, to officially give him a certificate. He's now officially the*world's oldest living man.

Remarkably, it's even*more of an achievement than it sounds. Kristal was born in Poland on Sept. 15, 1903. He*survived*World War I as a child,*but his father, his sole remaining parent, was killed by Russian soldiers during the conflict. He*moved to the city of*Lodz, Poland, as a teenage orphan, eventually finding*work making candy.

When the Nazis invaded Poland in 1939, Israel moved into the Jewish ghetto in the city of Lodz. Four years later, by which time he was in his*late 30s, Kristal's family was sent to Auschwitz, the notorious Nazi death*camp."

It's pretty inspirational. Maybe scientists will find out his genes and extend all of our lives, or maybe he will just quietly live out his life. I guess it just goes to show how strong human will can be.

In biology they taught us that humans can live up to 126 years in a perfect environment, but most of us usually make it halfway due to environmental factors

That is what makes it especially interesting, because this guy has had to endure some harsh environmental conditions. Stress also limits life expectancy too.

Yeah. I guess he is pretty stronk when it comes to enduring all that life threw at him. I envy him, seeing how I will die before my seventies as is common in my family. Grandpa was as healthy as a dragon and died in his sleep before I was born.

it must be truly surreal for insanely old people, just think of how much change has taken place from the early 20th century to the current year

it's like starting in BioShock Infinite and ending in Fallout 4, lol

It's a giant middle to finger that in 2016, the oldest man alive is a Holocaust survivor. I like it.
