Obama has announced Brian Sandoval (R-NV) as the replacement for Justice Scalia. Sandoval has served as governor of Nevada and as a judge before. He is also popular in his state. This is a tact move by Obama because he shares a lot of the sand views when it comes to social issues. Because he is a Republican, Obama is also seeing how far Congress will go to "reject anyone nominated before January." Senate minority leader Reid is in accordance, and vetting has begun.

I think it is nice because he, I believe would be another swing vote on the bench. So in some cases, a somewhat progressive case could go 6-3 in favor of the left. But since they are also still Republicans, it could also go 5-4 in favor of the right as it has been.
