View Full Version : Cape Breton If Trump Wins

Saw this and wanted to share it. This website is for Americans who if Trump wins might decide to flee to Canada. It Promotes the Island of Cape Breton to host those American refuges, where Muslim people can roam freely, where the only walls are the ones holding the roof of your affordable house, where women can get an abortion and where health care is free and where no one owns a handgun

Refugees from wut though. Even if Trump is elected, I don't think America itself would be so war-torn that we would have to "flee" from anything. Hell, I don't like him either but let's not exaggerate here.

Unfortunately, I've got college and the immigration process takes too long, so I'd have to be an... ILL-LEE-GULL if I wanted to escape Der Trumpfenkrieg.

What's wrong with handguns
Many people feel worried that the US has too many guns period. About 80 per person last I checked. To these people, an increase in guns means more lethal crime and more lethal suicides. So there may be nothing wrong with a single handgun, but a mass amount may be bad.

Actually violent crime is higher in cities with gun control and plus if somebody truly wants to kill themselves they'll do it, whether they have a gun or not.

It isn't necessarily my opinion, but if you want to see a differing point of view here is a good video to start with: https://youtu.be/bX4qUsgHa4Y

I'm not for banning guns for things like hunting, but there are probably just too many floating around. Usually if you have too much of anything it's bad. For this issue, l choose the "moderation is key" approach.

When your freedom is being limited, you are no longer free.

Everyone's 'freedom' is limited in that they can't harm others. If firearm possession is detrimental to society, than it is perfectly fine for government to ban it.

Out of curiosity, besides for the 2nd ammendment, why do you consider firearm ownership a right? And why doesn't whatever rationale you have work for a piece of artillery?

Firearm ownership isn't a danger to society. You will actually find evidence that American cities with gun control are more dangerous than those that allow gun ownership.

I have the right to protect my self and my family. If the bad guys are gonna have it you can be damn sure I want it. I will not be made a victim.

And a piece of artillery is actually legal to own. I believe it's up to 40mm that you can own.

The actual studies that control for other influences on crime indicate that firearm ownership has a slight impact on overall crime levels and a larger impact on personal victimisation given ownership.

I'll cite when I get the time. Though I've cited the latter perhaps a half dozen times on this site.

Show me the source. Because in that case we not only have conflicting views, but conflicting data. And that is no good.

Wait, why are we debating this here? Oh well.

Six of those cities are in states with poor scores for their gun laws, while the other four get a “C” or better. Chicago, which placed last in the top 10, had a ban on handguns at the time. There’s no discernible pattern among those cities, nor clear or convincing evidence in these statistics that shows more gun laws lead to more or less gun crime.

http://www.factcheck.org/2015/10/gun-laws-deaths-and-crimes/

I haven't reviewed all the sources but this seems reasonable.

I'll emphasise though that unless confounding factors are adjusted for these statistics are worthless.
