Is he shy or just sad?

I go to a bus stop with 2 friends, one male and one female. And another boy who I like a lot (The guy who the topic is about). I have hang out with them waited until their bus goes to pick them up, then I walk home. I think he may find it strange how I wait but don't get the bus with them, we chat a lot. The guy who I like is always a bit quiet, he's moved here from New Zealand and South Africa and now in UK. He looks happy but I know behind it he's sad, he's been punched in the eye and I saw him cry a lot. I am very shy too!
How can we get to talk more? He doesn't have social media websites...

I'm also in a similar situation. There's this guy in my class that, when he arrives school at the morning, he looks extremely sad, though he cheers up a bit during classes. I suspect he has some kind of family problems, but I just don't know how to approach him, as I don't talk to him much often. But as you two have already talked before, and if you think he's in some kind of trouble, you can just privately ask him if everything's alright with him, and why has his eye been punched. Don't try to seem to curious about it, just ask him in a way he thinks you're worrying about him.

Just keep doing what you are doing. Be his friend...let him know you are there for him and he can talk about anything. I agree you shouldn't come on too strong as it might scare him away.
