Hey guys. Okay, so, I'm auditioning for a musical at my school with my friend and I need a song. Does anybody have any ideas on what I should sing? Btw, I play the piano as well. If they allow people to play while singing, then, I might do Say Something. If it's a cover of a song that you think rocks, please tell me the person who sung it so I can search for it on Youtube! You could even suggest your favourite song!

I'l tell you a song that is not overly complex yet clever, easy to get into, sounds great as an accoustic cover and is a song that many will recognize - Overkill by Men At Work (sung by Colin Hay). I would suggest you take a look at the accoustic version that was in "Scrubs", that's the one I'm learning at the moment :)
Good Luck!

I don't know if you already did it yet, but if you didn't, I fell like since you play the piano and sing, "Someboy To Love" by Queen would be a great choice :D

Audition song is actually a very critical part. It isn't as much about showing you have talent as giving the judges a bit of a sample of what they'd be getting if they cast you in the role. For instance, my most recent production was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Charlie sang Not While I'm Around from Sweeney Todd for the audition. Young boy character with a big heart, works very well. You want to be choosing a song with a similar character. It wouldn't make sense to sing a song sung by an elderly character if you're trying out for a spunky teenage role.
I can't give you any suggestions because you've failed to mention what musical you're auditioning for, the role you want, and your vocal range. But the goal here is to pick something related to musical theatre that the judges will be semi-familiar with but not sick of. Rule of thumb as I've always heard it is generally to stay away from stuff currently on Broadway. Also, anything from Annie, just don't do it. I would avoid recent movie musicals too.
In the same way, dress the part, but don't come in costume. I'm quite far from girly, but when I'm going for a girly role, I go through my wardrobe from when I was a teenager and find a simple blouse or something. Like I said, you don't want to push yourself into the role, but if you can get the judges to see you in the role then you're at such an advantage.
Even if they would let you play piano, don't do it. Bring an intrumental track and/or sheet music if they have a pianist, unless they're doing a cappella auditions. Should say on their flyers.
