So my mum has come home with a bag full of products :/
Skin cleanser, face wash, face wipes, and face cream.
She said I should use it to stop getting spots. I don't really get many and usually just wash with soap or shower gel.
Is it better to use all that stuff?
What do you use?

Oh and her reason for it was prevention is better than cure .. :/

I dont use any of those things, I just wash my face everyday with regular soap to keep the oils down and it seems to help. You dont want to dry out your skin too much by using those things, but it wont hurt if you do. The key is not having oily skin and that should help.

One or two won't hurt.

See your face makes spots/acne because it produces too much oil. Some oil is good though. If you stop oil production with too many products, your face will freak out because it has no oils and will start secreting more, causing worse spots/acne.

Again you may use a few products but all of them, could be bad.

Hope this helps

I used to have acne but its mostly gone now and i get the odd spot on occasion and i just use a foam cleaner in the shower, any face wash will do as long as the active ingredient is salicylic acid.

You should do it at least once a day but i just do it when ever i brush my teethe because before bed and before school so it keeps it good.

Its best to avoid using soap and shower gels as these can dry out your skin and can cause acne (due the their pH).

Using a face wash (avoid exfoliators for many reasons) can help with acne and also brighten your skin and just generally make it look better. Faces wipes are rubbish just because they don't properly cleanse your skin, only use them if you wear make up and wash your face with a face wash after.

If by face cream you mean moisturiser then go for it. But I wouldn't recommend oil free and just avoid ingredients such as cocoa butter and Shea butter. Id recormend an SPF to prevent signs of ageing.

I wouldn't recommend acne medication but if you do start to break out remember that a everyday treatment is much better than a spot treatment.

I've heard it works better for some people. For me I use a cream because I find it helps a lot, so I suggest you try it out and if you find it doesn't make a difference then just leave it.

I use Neutrogena Face Soap with Aloe for oily skin.
It does not dry up the skin as most other soaps do.
I wash my face in the morning and before I go to bed.
I started having break out spots but when I started using
this I have no more probs.

I personally never use products and my face is pretty clean. If you have long hair I suggest combing it so it's not touching your face. That's instant acne right there

Just soap and water. And actually some days just water. I'm lucky I don't have acne really. I do own some pads that have that sacyliac acid or whatever its called. If I feel a zit coming on or KY face feels extra oily, I use the pads. That's cool your mom bought all that stuff but if I was you I'd just use one, the one you like the best after trying them out for a while.

I can't really tell because like you I just use water normally and I only get a few spots. I think you should definitely try them though for the reason your mum provided.

Thanks for opinions.
I get like the odd spots , so it's not because I got problems.
I'm gonna use some tho and see how I get on. If it makes my skin feel nice then I'll use them.

Soap is alkali as it neutralises the carboxylic acids in sweat, this is fine for your body. On your face the pH should be around 4, so slightly acidic. This helps reduce bacteria and helps aids exfoliation. That's partly why a face wash can help, it will also kill bacteria and help other products to absorb well.

Salicylic acid pads can help just use them every day, same with benzoyl peroxide. When you have a spot its been forming for weeks, best to get it before it forms a head.

So my mum has come home with a bag full of Testogen products (http://www.researchmentortraining.org/) and gave them to me :/
Skin cleanser, face wash, face wipes, and face cream.

Don't do it mate. My face wasn't that bad until I started using oxy face wash and now it broke me out. I think putting all that stuff on your face will do more harm than good.

I have Dove Men Face and Body wash and I like it. I think using tooooo many products will cause your face to break out more and stuff because your face has to deal with tons of different chemicals and still get through the day. No worries about the pimples, unless you're going to be on camera or something. I'd say just eat healthier and research specific products and what guys your age thought about them before using if you see fit to use them in the first place.

I don't think its about how much you use, its about what you use. If you use products free from irritants like detergents, fragrance, and methol and don't use thick moisturisers like cocoa and shea and don't use products that inhibit yours skins natural barrier functions like soap, lemon juice or baking soda then there shouldn't be a reason to break out.

This might help a bit: http://obsessedwithskin.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/a-practical-guide-to-acne.html

I don't overload on those types of products. My mom buys exfoliating face wipes and Clearasil pads.

Well the thing is most people don't know an irritant when they see one, case and point what you just said.

The clearasil pads have alcohol, an irritant, in them and most wipes do also.

Another thing I would say is that wipes don't clean your face as well as a face wash and water. That's why they add alcohol because it feels like its helping but its not. There's nothing better for cleansing your face with than water and a gentle face wash.

Here's a list of ingredients to avoid, I've tried to list the most common:

Alcohol Denat (denatured alcohol)
Alcohol
Menthol
Ammonium Lauyl sulfate (except in a face wash)
Sodium Lauyl sulfate (except in a face wash)
Soap
Parfum or Fragrance
