I am a catholic and i do what you do. I know this is bad when it comes to religion but i guess its the hormones that keeps us doing it. It's our body that's longing for it. Maybe im not as religious as everyone here but afaik you should take care of your health and body, and for me, im considering that jerking off is 1 of my needs
In taking care of my health.

One more thing, masturbation is wayyyyyyy better than rape.

I do masturbate and watch porn. I would love to stop but it isn't easy. I have found that Jesus loves and forgives me.

Yes, I j/o and no I am not Christian.

For those who are it is worth bearing in mind that churches, and indeed branches of Christianity such as Catholicism, Protestantism etc. are human organisations and are subject to the usual things that human organisations are subject to - people who are power hungry and empire building.

In the well-known passage from Genesis that is often quoted as making masturbation a sin Onan actually practised coitus interruptus not masturbation. Some have gone on to interpret that passage as meaning "any wasting of seed is a sin" but it seems to me it is more about Onan deliberately disobeying God when God told him to provide a child for his brother's widow.

So why would a church interpret this to mean any wasting of seed is a sin? Because they want those who follow that religion to have as many children as possible to increase the number of followers, i.e. human-driven empire building plain and simple.

As a Christian, who has mostly practised his faith in the Catholic and High Anglican (Episcopal) denominations, I will say that viewing porn is against doctrine. I do watch porn, and know it's wrong but I know I am not perfect.

However, I will say I have not come across any scripture or any justified rule in any denomination of Christianity that teaches masturbation is wrong. I do not think it is ethically or morally wrong, nor do I believe it is a sin in the eyes of the Lord. Others will disagree with me, but that is my view (Maybe it could be a debate in ROTW? :P)

I am atheist but I've been a 100% catholic for 7 years
(Now 16 yo)

Even when I was catholic I jerked off sometime xD

Tbh the fact that they're against masturbation (and against many other normal things) made me think they're so far from the real life

That's how I came to understanding that religion is something wrong and completely illogical, war-causing, that is created to control large groups of people - no offence:D

For me as a person who was taught christianity and was surrounded by (nominal) religious people from childhood, it was a hard choice[emoji14]
I'm happy that now I can fap without any remorses that I'll burn in the hell XD

I'm not religious really. I don't have anything against it, just I've never been.
Only thing I've done is RE at school, nobody so far has said that u can't masterbate because it's sinful. Maybe I should ask next time ...
I do have a friend who is a Mormon and he said he isn't allowed to, is that true?

Yes, I jerk off and Yes I am Christian. I have never been taught in my church that masturbation was a bad thing or that it was an abuse of the body. I also watch porn and have never heard or been taught that making or watching pron was against God or anything like that. I have talked to my youth pastor about these things and he tells me that the Bible doesnt say anything about these things, that its just a matter or our moral conscience whether we think its wrong or not. And even though you are straight, its not a bad thing for you to jerk off to other guys jerking off. I hope youre able to find the answers you are looking for in all of this.

I'm a Christian, I do jerk off, but I do not watch porn. Yes the Bible says that porn (& Adultry, Lustfulness etc.) is wrong, but there hasn't been anything said in the Bible about Masturbation being a sin. Closest thing to the subject is Genesis 38:8 when Onan wasn't not providing and spilling on the ground. But it wasn't masturbation.

The act of masturbation isn't sinful, however it's what you think/fantasise about which steers you into deep waters - and becomes lust, which the Bible talks about:

Matthew 5:28 – “You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who has looked a woman [or man] lustfully has already committed adultery with [them in their] heart.”

Hence why porn can be seen as sinful as you lust and fantasise.
Masturbation as an act isn't necessarily sinful, and the Bible describes very little [if any] about it.

To be honest, I still masturbate [but avoid porn] because I feel its natural. The question you should ask yourself regarding any act - not just masturbation - is if its controlling you, and if its helping you build a relationship with God.

This is a good question. I sometimes do feel guilty but not often and I guess of all the responses already given I'm closest to the one I'm quoting below. But I also share similarities with guys who say things like it's hard or impossible to stop, among others. I do feel like God doesn't want us to jerk off but I feel like living in 2016 it's harder than ever. Less than 80 years ago a 14 yo could be married and having sex with his wife as much as he wanted, and obviously there was no porn then. Today how can we wait to jerk off and have sex until we're married when most people don't get married until after 25 - especially with all the things like porn, TV, sexy commercials, etc. It's hard. So yes some guilt, but not tons I guess.

I'm Christian, but not Catholic and I jerk off regularly. I don't think jerking off is sinful and you can't be sent to Hell if you have a heart attack and die while doing it. My 2 best friends are Catholic and 1 of them even goes to a catholic school and we all jerk off sometimes together. My friends who are catholic told me that they doesn't have to confess that they jerk off when they go to confession to their priest. If a catholic doesn't have to confess jerking off and feel guilty about doing it then it can't be a bad thing.

I stumbled on this post on the Landover Baptish Church forum (http://www.landoverbaptist.net/showthread.php?t=78606) which seemed very topical given this discussion. It's one of those things where upon first reading you can't be sure if they're deadly serious and have been hiding away from mainstream life for a while or are having and laugh and, of course, it is the latter.

I'm Christian and I wonder about these things all the time. I think it winds down to truly being up to the individual. You can basically do whatever you want in life but that doesn't mean its right or God approves. I don't think that masturbation is really THAT bad because years ago people got married and had children at 16 and that was normal. We have to wait years and years and I'm not sure we were made to be that way. Society has changed when we have sex and what we think about everything sexual. It's really unhealthy tbh. I think porn is bad because that's not necessary and I believe the Bible has something on it. As far as the watching other guys jerk off I do it too and its for me at least because of curiosity.

Wish you the best. God knows your heart.

By "it" do I assume you mean the story of Onan (Genesis 38:9 (http://biblehub.com/genesis/38-9.htm))? One problem with scriptures is they are open to interpretation. This is not one of the ten commandments; it's a story of what someone did and how he was punished. We are left to decide what we believe the crime to be.

Concluding that the crime was "wasting his seed" is a fairly obvious interpretation and, if you follow this its logical conclusion, you end up that ejaculating any time that does not have at least a chance of making a girl pregnant is a sin. That would include masturbation, any form of contraception and any form of gay sex. It also leaves a real question over what men are supposed to do in later life when their wives have reached menopause. With no chance of pregnancy that man would be "wasting his seed" and yet he is not allowed to have sex with a woman who is not his wife and he made a vow in front of god to remain his wife's husband until death us do part. Seems he is left with the choice of a return to abstinence, getting castrated or committing suicide.

So, that interpretation, though an obvious one, has practical problems and begs the question of why God would design man in a way that makes it so hard for him to comply with rules that God also sets.

There is another interpretation, though, and that is simply that the "crime" was simply disobedience. If there was some smoked fish in the fridge at home, one of your parents told you not to eat it, you ate it anyway and were then punished does that mean eating smoked fish is bad? No, it means when your parents tell you something they expect compliance. Who knows, it may have been intended that you eat the fish, but for lunch the following day.

Personally I favour the second interpretation, one of of disobedience and it doesn't involve any silly conflicts.

Dude listen. Yes I jerk off, no I am not Christian. According to the US Army I am Jewish. It's not wrong to masturbate. You have to remember the bible was written long ago and is bias on some parts. Throughout history it has been altered and it will continue to do so. There is nothing bad about masturbating. Masturbating to a guy is not wrong either. You could just be extremely horny, curious or you might actually be gay and don't know it. All of these are alright and nothing is wrong with it. This is all part of puberty. Just stay true to yourself and have fun. Do that and you cannot go wrong.

Protestant Christian, so probably not as much against it as Catholics, or Muslims, or something. But I mean idk what my pastor would say, probably say don't do it. But maybe not. I would say don't do it more than you have to, but don't feel terrible about it. 99% of people do it. But if you can not do it, all the more power to you.

Add: God knows people sin, that's EVERYBODY, not everybody sins in the same way. Pray and be the best person you can be.
