Today was India's Republic Day. We hosted the PM of France in the celebrations in New Delhi.

Modi's term has been marked with several visits to foreign countries. His supporters have said that this has helped improve relations with powers like France, UK, USA, Germany, Australia, etc. His critics dont agree though.

When his programmes abroad are telecast, we Indians are shown Modi treated like a rockstar by the host nation, primarily by the Indian diaspora there.

What I would like to know is what kind of publicity is generated locally and what you people think of him.

Thank you!

In Israel they're very big fans of his. I'm not sure to what extent that's justified, but that's what it is.

I don't know much about the guy but he'd be 10/10 in my book if he enforced toilet use the same way he enforced order after those anti-Muslim riots broke out, by which I mean at gunpoint. as part of the Swachh Bharat campaign Modi could put up street signs reading "Squat, Get Shot." he's got the right idea though.

humor aside I'm 100% serious, by the way - see my Malthusian thread for details on why I think this is critically important despite living far away from India myself. the life you save could be your favorite VT poster.

Israelis. He's viewed as a friend of the Jews. We don't have many Indians living here.

Unfortunately that is turning into a sort of photo op for celebrities, who take a broom in their hand and take photos of themselves cleaning the streets.

Funnily, they've also imposed a 'Swachh Bharat' tax of 0.5% on everything of which I find no real sense.
