So I joined a new school this term and I met a girl there which I really really like. So I talked to her a lot, she's not living that far away from me and so we walked home together almost every day and we were talking all the time and I kinda had the impression that she liked me too. However, I am a very shy guy, I never had a girlfriend, I once dated a girl 1 or 2 times, but she was the one who asked me out then. So I didn't know much to say and we weren't texting often just because I never had the courage to text her or I didn't know what to text.
So suddenly, yesterday, a friend of mine just dropped "oh hey guys, me and (her name) are in a relationship now." I was hurt and very sad the whole day, even better I had to walk home with her again but I didn't want to talk to her at all. At first I couldn't really believe it but I didn't want to ask her directly bc I think that'd be a bit weird, but I overheard another friend of mine talking to her today and he asked how long they have been together already and she said already since mid-December".
So that's my story. I am hurt and very disappointed and a little bit irritated bc I've never ever seen them do anything together apart from maybe talking to each other from time to time. I don't know what to do but I don't want to walk with her every day before and after school but I don't wanna be rude so I can't just stop and don't talk to her anymore. :(
I am just so sad rn and I don't think I'll ever meet any girl who likes me or if I do I'll screw it up like I just did. Can someone help me or does someone have any similar experience? :/

First off how old are you all?
Second, you're going to have to get over the "sadness" really fast, mature people know how to suck up the pain and just endure without moping too much.
Walk with her and the best thing to do would be professional and pretend that nothing happened so you could keep being friendly with her. You might want to break the ice and acknowledge the awkwardness your friend (her fairly new boyfriend) caused because you did want to ask her out.
Certainly respect your friend's and her relationship, but I don't think any harm would occur if you dropped a line that you're offer still stands if she ever were to become available. DO NOT frame it as a contest between you're friend and her, it needs to be a respectful passive line dropped acknowledging the truth of the situation both past, present, and future.

I say play it cool for now , you never know whats going to happen. She might break up with your friend shortly , other girls might see you walking her home and think how sweet that is and be attracted to you. It hurts now , but in a few weeks everything can change.

We're both 16. Her boyfriend is 17, almost 18 I think.

I'll try. It's my first time experiencing such feelings, so yeah, it kinda just got to me.
However, I don't know if I really should tell her that, especially because I have no idea at all at how I should tell her this.

You're right, I'll do that.
Thanks though, to you both, I appreciate that help :)

Here I am again, with a little update, even though many of you probably dont really care but I just felt like I should do a little update here. So they actually broke up, and she doesn't seem too upset (even tho he broke up with her by text message^^).
So yet again it's on me to get closer ;)
Still walking home with here every so often, so let's see what happens :)
