I think girl likes me and I like her, but I'm shy

I think this really hot girl at school likes me. She sometimes says hi to me and asks how I'm doing, even though we're not really friends. She also sometimes waves and smiles energetically. We're also in a class together, and sometimes she asks what the homework assignment is (even though she could ask her friends or look online). The problem is, I'm too shy to start talking to her if she doesn't initiate, and I'm too shy to ask for her number. How do I hint that I like her? She's the hottest girl at my school, she's rejected every boy that has asked her out, and I don't want her to loose interest. What do I do?

you should ask for her number. it's scary, but you'll never get anywhere not taking risks, and if sh shoots you down, at least you're in good company. if she gives you it, talk to her, see what you two have in common, and never ever underestimate the value of being able to make her laugh. :)
