Okay, so I'm 17 and I'm 175cm tall (5'9") and although I know that's the average male height here in the UK, I always feel really short.

So I was wondering whether I'm likely to grow much more? I've been growing about 3 cm (just over an inch) every year for the past three years now... I just wish I was taller...

It's unclear really, you could grow some more. I think it is said that you stop growing fully at 21. I'm also 17 and I'm 186cm (6'1") and I haven't grown in like over a year now.

Hi James,

As you can imagine, multiple factors can affect one's height. In general, you could probably consider these as inherited factors versus acquired factors. For the latter, the general trend would be that those who belong to taller families; typically present as taller than the 'average' in their peer group. For the latter, things like nutrition and exercise would play an important factor; for example.

You're still within the age group where growth spurts typically occur, so you could very well be still on the rise (so to speak). I saw one of your other recent posts, where you said you were just experiencing wet dreams again after four years? Very possibly, this might be representing hormonal fluxes you're currently experiencing and might mean you are still prone to sprouting? It's very hard to tell!

For quite some time, many people have been trying to find formulas to work out predicted height. None of them are really fool proof, so you can probably take your pick out of the whole lot. One commonly used method is called the 'mid-parental' method.

If you are interested, it suggests that you average the height of the parents of the person, and then:

1) If you are male, add two inches OR
2) If you are female, subtract two inches
And then, your potential height range is within 3.5 to 4 inches on either side of this.

But at the end of the day, we are all very individual and the most important thing, is that we are comfortable with ourselves. The height is just one other facet of what makes us who we are. There are many other things which combine to make up our identity.

Hope that helps!

Its always possible, depends on what your genes dictate. Even if you dont grow anymore, you should be happy with the way you are, always.

It's all down to genes.

If it makes you feel better, I would kill to be 5'9" by the time i'm 17; i'm 16 and last time I was measured I was a hair under 5'3", I feel tiny amongst my friends.

My dad is 5'5" and my mum is under 5 feet, so the chances of me being tall are very slim xD

You might or you might not. You're not even small though. You're taller than my entire family LOL
