There is a boy I really like at school who has aspergers syndrome. I also have the condition but it seems like he has more challenges to face than I do. We have a lot in common and he is one of the most interesting people I have ever met.
Problem is my family and friends seem to think he's 'stupid'. I disagree, as I can tell he's a very deep person with a lot to say.
My friend brought this up and said that he's mentally challenged, which made me feel bad for pursuing him.
In all honesty I don't care what people would say, relationships are for the people involved obviously, but my family and friends are making a big deal out of this when I see no reason for there to be one.

Judgement does take its toll on you eventually but it is great to see that you are currently unfazed by the way your family and friends feel. You are an individual with an individual mindset and opinion, don't let others sway that for an unjust reason.

Awww that's so sad. I feel bad for him with people talking about him like that. I think you should make a move and prove everyone wrong. Afterall it's your life!

If you care about this fellow then it should not matter what your parents have to say. If he makes you happy then do not listen to what others have to say.

That pisses me off hearing about this. I'm sorry your family and friends are like that, I think it's heartless and rude of them to say such horrible things.
You can like whoever you want and you don't need approval from Anyone!
If you like him, that's all that matters.
If you also have aspergers, they should already be understanding, I don't get it.
At any rate, just say out right that if they have nothing nice to say about him then don't say anything at all and make it clear that you like him and they need to be respectful of that.
