After the Royal Marines,it was US's turn to see some of its soldiers being captured by rag tag Iranian paramilitaries or whatever they are.

Heard they were all released. There goes our Neocons' hopes of having an excuse to invade Iran.
I'm glad to see that our troops were returned safely. However, it does concern me with how the Iranians made a show out of capturing the sailors, as well as that they forced the female sailor to wear that scarf-thing. But I guess things could've gotten a lot worse.

thank God they're all ok, but something has to be done. we cannot allow other countries to do this to our men and women. I am not sure exactly what should be done, but something should

The US sailors apparently entered Iran's territorial waters,so it was in their right to intercept any ship that could pose a problem to them.
we cannot allow other countries to do this to our men and women.
What does that mean ? US soldiers shouldn't be captured when they violate one's territorial waters ? Because they're from 'Muricah they need to get some favor or what ?
What would the US do if an Iranian navy's ship violated US territorial waters ?

not sure what the big deal is, fam. the soldiers reported that they were well-treated and in any case detaining boats that enter territorial waters is fairly routine (except Europe lolololol)
but yeah NUKE IRAN or something

Technically, they shouldn't have said anything in front of the cameras. Name, rank, and serial numbers should've been all that was said. Anything said by a soldier that is not officially cleared to speak may jeopardize either the security or reputation of his or her nation.
Now I'm curious to see if he did it upon his own free will, or if there was some sort of coercion there.

They were well treated. (Pentagon confirms no harm were done to them.)
They were considering them as their guests.

Looking at that last photo made me notice that Persian bears a striking resemblance to Arabic.

Learning Arabic is akin to being tortured. 10/10 would not recommend unless you possess extreme amounts of patience and determination. But I digress...

yeah Semitic languages are max level and if you don't learn them as a little kid you're never gonna
guess that explains why it took so long to decode Egyptian and even now a lot of it is still incognito

back on topic (sorta) I'm thinking of starting an Iran general thread, I figure any country that gives Murika such a raging hateboner can't be all that bad

The Islamic Republic of Iran (it's pronounced ee-ran, not ay-ran) itself was founded in an anti-American revolution in 1979, led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who was a fierce hater of the U.S.A. (or Great Satan as he called it) when he toppled the pro-American Pahlavi dynasty.

Well actually anti-American hatred was first introduced to Iranian population during WWII when American forces entered Iran alongside other Allied forces.
Definitely increased during 1953 coup, and reached at its peak with "Payment of Wilderness Service" and the legalization of "Capitulation Law" which would leave American advisors and forces free of being sued in Iranian courts if committed any kind of crime in Iran, which in those days the most common was harassment of Iranian women, illegal occupation of properties and in some cases murder in the areas where they used to reside. With the success of Islamic Revolution and its survival of Imposed War,this hatred got more reasons to increase.Cultural, political and ...
Iranian anti-American and in general,anti-foreign (more particularly western) attitudes are usually rooted in earlier events prior to the emergence of Ayatollah Khomeini.
