Can I get STDs from kissing or having oral sex? One of my friends said it actually happened to him!

STIs that are commonly caught through oral sex are:
gonorrhoea
genital herpes
syphilis

There are others such as HIV etc that can be passed through oral sex however, it is highly unlikely.

Ok, let's see... It depends on how the STD spreads. HIV/AIDS is primarily transmitted through blood, and therefore is very unlikely to spread through kissing or having oral sex - unless you have a severe cut in your mouth or another way of absorbing the other person's blood... Other STDs are quite different. Gonorrhea can for example easily be transmitted thorugh both oral, vaginal, anal - and so on and so forth - intercourse. So, it really is the transmission method of the bacteria/virus that decides if kissing or having oral sex is a risk. I would look it up on Wikipedia - personally got most of this from my biology notes. Best of luck to your poor friend, and keep an eye out for symptoms! ;)
