David Bowie, whose ground-breaking sound and chameleon-like ability to reinvent himself made him a pop music fixture for more than four decades, has died. He was 69.

Bowie died Sunday after an 18-month battle with cancer, his publicist Steve Martin told CNN.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief," said a statement posted on his official social media accounts.
Neither his publicist nor the statement elaborated on what kind of cancer the singer was fighting.

I only listened to three or four of David Bowie's songs, but the world has lost a very influential and great musician.

It kind of hit me with Lemmy, and now I'm really realizing that all these legends I've grown up knowing can and will be gone. It's horribly sad.

Rest in peace Starman.

It is funny in a way for me, because when I heard a radio advert about something new he was doing, I thought he wasn't alive anymore (thought he was born earlier). Guess I was 3 days out. He produced music like nobody else did.

Truly a music legend that will be missed. I'm pretty sure that Bowie influenced most rock or pop musicians that have been playing the last 30 years - in some form or another. The man literally came at you with about ten different styles of music.

Weird coincidence that I posted a song by him just in the last few days. RIP. :(

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues.

Wow, I can't believe that. I liked his music so much. I will always cherish the music he's put out, the world lost a truly amazing artist.

I'd heard that he was working on some new stuff so I was surprised when I heard this morning that David Bowie passed away. He will be missed. R.I.P. David

And now I realise that new thing (Lazarus; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-JqH1M4Ya8) is what he planned to release when he died, which he succeeded in doing so early.

All in all, the greatness of his talent will live far beyond him, and I'm sure beyond our lives too.

I never was really a big David Bowie fan but for what he did for the music industry he will be missed. Like lemmy. I already miss lemmy... That's just 2 more icons going to where the rock never ends.
