So Since my birthday was just yesterday, I'm curious to know if anyone else dreads their birthday and why. Personally I hate the extra expectations and added allowances, for example in Canada I can now drink, smoke, own a creditcard and vote. I want none of those things and having those allowances just makes me even more depressed. I have to say personally, turning 18 is so far my most depressing birthday yet :( . Does anyone else hate their birthday? and does anyone have any suggestions getting over the depression, I was put on anti-depressence meds in early September of this and have been bouncing around to different meds because none seem to help for very long so that isn't an answer....

You don't need any of those things, just forget they exist and live your life normally!

Yea just because they don't matter doesn't change things that much though.

I used to find my birthdays fairly depressing, and I do remember finding my 18th particularly depressing. I think for me it was the realisation that I never thought i'd make that age and here I was. It was a mixed depressing feeling. And yes I must admit i'm dreading my 21st a bit for the same reasons you say. For me it'll be around the time I finish my degree and will be a real adult...

Why would being able to legally drink, smoke and own a credit card make you depressed?
I think its awesome that you get to do those things if you so choose.
You don't have to do anything you don't want to do and really, it's probably a bad idea to have a credit card anyways, it's just a fast way to get you in debt and even more depressed.
Can you possibly go talk to a councillor about your depression? You may need too talk it out rather then taking the pills.
I have read on some depression forums from people that take antidepressants and they have said that they tried taking 5HTP which is natural and you can find it at your local health food store. Many say it works way better!
Your GP likely won't know anything about it because it's natural but if you have money to see a naturalpath, they could help you.
If you can't afford one, you can research 5htp yourself online. I take it often and I like it.
I think it comes in 25, 50 and 100 mg. I take the 50mg.
Pm me if you want to ask me questions about it.
