View Full Version : What's it like having a sister?

I only have a brother and so I've always wondered what it'd be like with a sister instead. Would my personality and how I act change if I had a sister instead of a brother? I've only got one cousin that's a girl and really close to me to be like my sister, but that's pretty much it. I wonder how much my life would change if I did have one.

Any guys here that have a sister that could tell me what it's like?

I'd love to know what it's like to have either - I'm an only child.
Although everyone says "oh, you're so lucky" I think it's quite lonely. Eg, I have no one to back me up and no one around my age to be with in the holidays (like now).

My sis is 8 years older and I was always controlled by her...even made fun of....

When I was like 8-10 y she and her friends used to undress me to my briefs and put on a dress, ear-rings and a cap with fake hair and dress me like a girl and take me on their shopping trips to malls....I too looked pretty girlish and even a few schoolmates who saw me did not make me out...(but I was scared shitless)..

Now she is making fun of my body...So much so that I now keep a top on inside house as she pokes and makes fun of the tummy fat I've got lately on my skinny body....

One word: AWESOME.
It helped me understand the behaviors and feelings of girls. And also to respect girls in all of their aspect: physical, emotional, etc.
Like all siblings, we do have misunderstandings though...but relationship above ego all the time.

don't have one but I have a few friends with older sisters and it's pretty much like having a second mom. glad I dodged that bullet.

Like this for me. My half sister is 3 yrs younger and yeh, she gets on my nerves sometimes but we grew up being close as in doing things together from taking baths together when we were kids to going to camp. I taught her to ride a bike and shoot a bow and arrow & stuff like that.
We tease each other & try to make each other mad but always let each other know it's not serious. We fight but always make up. Now that we're older we're more apart but still close in many ways. We share secrets, she tells me how girls think and borrows my jeans (same waist size but she rolls them up six inches).
You don't put your sister on a pedestal, like her shit stinks too, but it's good to have a girl around you can get the feel of how they think, and yeah, they're different.

It can be really fun sometimes and it can be shit. She is 14 now and she starts getting a big mouth. I personally don't let her talk to me the way she does to her friends and we get in fights a lot. on the other hand it is really nice. We have a stepbrother and sister who are both 13. with my sister I can openly discuss everything that happens in the house. we both get pretty annoyed by these spoiled brats living in our house.

And no matter what, I will always defend my sister and had to in the past. she knows that if anything happens she can come to me

I've an older sister. Dealing with her has always been difficult.

On the other hand I also have an older stepsis. She's much easier to handle, but like all the girls she's about as complicated to understand like cracking the code of a Enigma machine.

I have an older brother and older sister and I would say that it has been great. Sure we get in fights sometimes but also often they are fun and take me places. I know that I have learned a lot from them.

My sister is my twin so we're a lot closer than we would have been if we were separate ages.

truthfully i wondered that for a long time when i was younger as i lived by myself then poof i move in with my mom and have two i think it all depends on the people as my little sisters are very different one is autistic and screams at every little thing and doesn't do anything unless she wants two and the other is back and forth between my best friend and the meanest person in the world i mean seriously she'll tell you to kill yourself for no reason just to piss you off one minute then the next want to play with you

For me, pretty sweet. We get along well, tease each other, and play video games with each other.

could you tell a bit more about that? in what way are you two closer than other brothers and sisters?

Well, since we're the same age, that means we're in same classes at school. So we have teachers in common, we both know all the inside jokes at school, help each other with homework, can understand each other's struggles a bit better, share some friends, etc... I feel like I would be very distant if I had a younger/older sibling, they just don't get you as well as someone your age.

Two younger brothers (brats) is quite enough for me

That sounds rough... Can't be easy for your family, or you.

My sister and I get on fairly well, but she's more of a friend than a best friend. I love her, she FEELS like my sister, but we just aren't massively close. It upsets me at times, but she just likes her independence and prefers to be out with her friends than with me. There's only about a year between us, but she wants to be a 21 year old already. :(

For my brother, having me as a sister is the best thing that ever happened to him, even if I do say so myself hah :P:wub:

My older sister (15) is pretty cool. Yep..she does get on my nerves lots of times and can totally piss me off. But usually it's over in a day or less. We know we can depend on each other when the chips are down. That's what counts. Now, my older bro..well...that dude is a piece of work! I would trade him off for a used camel.

My sister is 19 and yeah she can be annoying. And childish for her age, and she doesn't do much. But I stay in my room most of the day anyways so it doesn't bother me to much.
