Pardon the title, I mean extracurricular activities :P.
I am currently doing the following:
Boy Scouts (I'm a Star Scout, hoping to be eagle by the end of junior year).
The top band at my high school
Jazz band at my high school
Piano lessons
Piano ensemble group which regularly plays at Old Folk's Homes
GSA at my High school
Marching Band
My classes are all advance and I've already started prepping for the PSAT and thinking about the ACT and SAT. I've made all As so far in my high school career (A semester and a fourth)
My question is, well frankly, do you think this enough to get into a top school? My dream would be going to Columbia or MIT for engineering.
Thanks

IDK man I would pursue a specialized path rather then doing a little bit of everything, which you seem to be doing. Music =/= engineering I think. Do engineering things if you want to take an engineering path.

Thanks for the reply. I also want to clarify. By saying crap in the title, I don't mean to sound like I don't enjoy the things I do, I just wanted to make a little joke.
On the music !== engineering front, (this is purely unscientific BTW) there is a lot of info supporting the idea that there is a correlation. Heck the College Board AP tables show a .6 correlation between high AP music theory scores and high Math and Writing scores on the PSAT (See link here (http://www.collegeboard.com/counselors/app/expectancy.html?music))
Finally, I do enjoy band and piano and will not give them up. :P

Yeah lol it appears that all talent has a common base (unsurprising). I don't know though, I haven't really thought about my future much. I complacently expect that there will be people along the way that will help me. I'd like to get into a career involving chemistry or art, so that is what i'm in favor of regarding high school courses.

I'm not sure, but sounds to me like you have a really good credential list. I'm certain you will go far with them :) Good luck!

sounds like you got enough to get you in, but it also takes luck. anything can happen, it can either go better than everything, or bad so you won't get in.
i wish you the best of luck with it

Its really just a game of chance when it comes to ivy league schools. There's no good way to prep. It sounds like you're doing your best.
Have you ever considered Purdue University? Arguably the best school in the big 10, with an engineering school that ranks right up there with the big name schools. While it's still very competitive, people overlook it because it lacks the ivy league recognition. Its the same, if not better depending of your specific engineering area, education with a less cut throat admition process. You should consider applying.

Your list seems dominated by music/arts but this isn't a bad thing. It takes a lot of commitment and hard work to be a good musician and this will work in your favour.
Engineering is competitive all over the world, I know here in the UK top universities want well rounded students but also top grades.
You can only do as much as you can - good luck getting in!

Live in Europe so no clue. Let me just say that if that isn't enough the American education system is the most incomprehensibly over demanding system ever.
