Is my foreskin supposed to stay pulled back?

But I have to hold mine back to see underneath the head bit where it meets the shaft, is it supposed to stay pulled back?

If it naturally stays behind the glans, then that's fine. If you have mild phimosis or phimosis in general (tight foreskin), it's not best to keep it behind the glans. If that happens, your foreskin will swell up.

Sandybeaches, everything you describe there is normal. For some people the foreskin naturally retracts from the end of the head a bit when hard but it is rare for it to be all the way back without needing to be held there.
