View Full Version : Does this happen to you?

I usually sleep on my back, and every time I wake up in the morning my penis is standing straight up. It's so annoying because I share a room with my little brother and I try not to let him see it. But when I get out of bed I can't hide it. Is this normal? And what can I do to not make it happen?

It's commonly called morning wood and a lot of us get it. I take it Ur bro is not so developed yet? Has he noticed before? Any questions from him yet?

I mean... standing straight up?? That's a little odd

This dude keeps saying what I'm thinking lol

But no, going straight up would be a little odd, but okay. I usually sleep on my stomach because my mom wakes me up so this way she won't see my hard on. If it goes up like that and you can notice it, it's usually called pitching a tent, although when I'm hard, it doesn't go straight out from me, it goes diagonally.

I sleep on my back, so when I say it's standing straight up I mean it's pointing up at the ceiling when I'm still laying in bed!

A bit of an age gap. If he does ask questions, just tell him, all boys go through it, and that it's normal

It's nothing unusual at all dudes, many guys stand straight up, some go straight down! Some like you have it angle up, some swing to the left or the right....it's all good, it's all normal...everyone is different...u never heard "the angle of the dangle???" jeez....

Erections while you sleep helps preventing that you pee in your bed since you are not suposed to be able to pee when hard, it keeps you from peeing while you sleep.

- Contrary to what many believe, waking up with your flag at full mast is not caused by urine buildup in the bladder. Morning erections are technically nighttime erections (or Nocturnal Penile Tumescence) which happen three to five times per night. They usually pop up (pun intended) during periods of Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep (when most dreaming occurs) and last around 30 minutes each. Unrelated to dream content, they are both common and completely normal and men older than sixty years may even have them during non-REM sleep. Likely a combination of testosterone levels and bedtime brain activity, these spontaneous woodies in the wee hours are caused by specific neuroreflexes that are stimulated during REM sleep. Scientists believe that the nerves in the penis release nitrous oxide which dilates nearby blood vessels, increasing blood flow and leading to an erection. Though you may find it surprising, this phenomenon occurs in other mammals. Women experience similar yet less visually noticeable REM-related engorgement of the clitoris and vagina as well.

Happens all the time dude. Its the fun part about being a guy. Just worry when you don't get one. I share a room with brother also and dad always wakes us up if its necessary so not a biggie. He's seen it all so no surprise there and brother and I just exchange jokes about it and go about our mourning routine.

Only really just thought to say this, but...

Don't bother hiding it from him. Just, if he says anything (not that I see why he would), look back at him with a sinister evil look on your face and say in an evil voice "It's gonna be you someday". I wouldn't really try to hide it if I were in this position, but luckily I haven't had to share a bedroom for at least 9 years so... I dunno :kitty:

But it was my mom! And she even caught me masturbating before, me holding it in my hand. So it's not something I can be proud of. Boners in the morning do not make me feel proud, they make me feel not in control over my own body and I don't like that.

Even though it is embarrasing with your mom, sounds like she is chillin out some. I think about all you can do it give her a smile if she says something about it. Its totally normal! Its all a part of growing up.
Typically you can either just wait til it goes away, go take a pee or have a shower... or if you are comfortable and able, try rubbing it! :P It will eventually feel great then suddenly go away! Not sure if thats possible with your little brother around though.

My mum makes dirty jokes about times she's caught me all the time, I just fire back something equally embarasing and awkward at her. We have one of those "we are equals, so we will speak yo each other as such" relationships instead of the usual "parents on top" one.

Ohhh. Hmm, yeah if you had just your underwear on and no shirt yeah lol. Well, you could politely ask your mom to not lift the covers off of you next time since random things happen when you're sleeping. See what she says, hopefully she'll understand. Since you said you wear briefs while back, that don't help either! Briefs don't always cover everything up either man haha. Sometimes "things" tend to pop out
