So I am opening this thread in order to discuss some things that I have been thinking through 1 month now.I am a 1st year college student in a Greek island Samos and I noticed that still people my age 17-18 have the same point of views like they had all their teenage years (mostly high school).Like they create cliques and just get in there and never get out, like thought patterns that they get attached to for extended periods of time(years maybe more) I am not saying that I haven't done it or still don't do it but I have changed in a way this summer from experiences that a kid my age and even an adult shouldn't have ever had but before getting those experiences I was struggling in order to change my thought patterns(I owe that will to struggle in my mind from buddhism influences)and of course ACT upon those thoughts, that led me to those experiences.I wanted to just discipline on my brain since march in order to get free and real both on thoughts, character and personality. So let's get to the point(sorry if the text is long I just want to put my thoughts in a way we can create a discussion-debate that's legimate and doesn't get sth totally different) I think that every human being has the capabilities of doing that in their own minds and just get what they want at last and I don't mean material things I mean things like real friendships, real love(working on that really hard didn't succed in that area),honesty, being more self-conscious(you can't get 100% on that at least from my research and struggle)and the list goes on and on.I want to open a discussion upon the things I mentioned above and also I want to question the possibilities of the human brain functioning and how it can impact the human itself in order for him to get where he wants just by altering the states of mind he is stuck to(I do not mean doing that under the use of any substance like alchool or illegal drugs though I have done both just for recreational purposes).I almost(may) have confirmed at least for myself that self-conscience can get you at least at the point of trying to change your thoughts from then on you are alone or with a minimum of help inside of your own mind, capabilities and external factors like guides on how to do that which you can find online or in a book.

I think you're referring to meditation and/or mental conditioning, introspection.
It's a good thing to be able to disengage yourself from the vast multitude of thoughts, social happenings, personal tensions and stuff and actually have your mind free.
I also agree about improving our capacities and how altering the state of mind can help in it. But in actuality, it's usually about disengaging yourself from most other things and focussing on the task at hand according to me.

Building real friendships/relationships are different from building a better personality because the former involves other people while the latter involves enhancing your own capacities as an individual. As long as other people are involved, in my opinion, an ideal or a very good state can rarely be achieved. As far s personality improvement is considered, I agree you can achieve that by utilising your mental capabilities properly.
