So long story short I have liked this girl for a LONG time. over the last few months we have been talking texting etc: Is it 'normal' to tell someone you like them if you have not gone on any dates? If I do tell her how I feel do I ask if she wants to go out with me? is that too early etc:

If you have been talking to her for that long she most likely finds you interesting. I don't think it's too early to say you like her. One thing about relationships is that there is no "normal". Just do what feels right.

Just do what you feel is right - you could look around and see what she might like to do or see on a date - make a few suggestions -

It's perfectly normal to tell someone you like them, even if you haven't gone on any dates. I don't think there is a "too early", each situation is different. If you want to ask her out, you should go for it!

I agree with the rest of these replies - just go with it, tell her when it feels right to do so. Too early would possibly only be if you literally just met them, but you've known her for a good amount of time. Just relax and tell her when you feel ready.
