Only did 1 month of HS PE so far, But probably 2/3 changed into Compression shorts the rest were just in there Uware (Mostly boxerBriefs) PE teacher suggested some support like comps, or a jock strap, but was not required. HS Shower after PE were optional but most guys showered.
(Had Chest injury in a rec game and could not do PE till my chest healed, they moved me from PE to Health Class)

In my Middle School most of us started just in UWare but by 8th grade most of us were in compresson shorts, Showers were NOT optional at that school after PE.

We don't have to take showers (we're not allowed to, never have been either) so most guys just keep what they have on. Most wear boxers or compression shorts, though it seems that compression has become more popular with most guys wearing some form now.

PE i wear briefs and compression shorts as a male, and i always take a shower after PE.

wear compression when its cooler out otherwise jock and some dry fit shorts are most comfortable for me running and doing sports in gym.

We wear jock straps under our gym shorts. Naturally we all take nude showers after p.e.. No one tries to get out of the showers anymore as coaches make us pull up our jockstrap band to prove we have jocks on. Plus there is always a coach to make sure we all take showers and stop horseplay.
