View Full Version : The Greatest National Tragedy

In history class we were learning about Indian Ocean Trade and I just realized how much some nations have fallen in terms of power and prestige. To me the greatest tragedy was Ethiopia, an ancient nation lasting through attempted invasion by the Arabs, Mamluks, and even the Italians. Yet they fell to rebels and were messed up by the Italian occupation. Now in the US it's known for starvation and human misery, but it has some of the best food and a cool history and tradition.

What is the saddest country that you know to have fallen from grace? Other than Ethiopia I guess Venice, UK, and Sweden have decreased too.

The list:
Venice
UK
Sweden
Greece
Spain
Portugal
Ethiopia
Ukraine (as Kievan Rus)
Poland/Lithuania
Serbia
Byzantium
Hungary
Inca
Aztec
Mayan
Khmer
Thailand
Mongol

England/UK/Britain whatever, no question. their decline was so precipitous and sudden it still makes my head spin. one day you're the erudite gentleman in a top hat who rules the world, and the next day you literally just can't even.

I still find it difficult to comprehend that the same nation that produced [insert long ass list of great men here, ending with Enoch Powell] is now an island-Sodom that has degenerated beyond rescue, and not even Britler (Nick Griffin) can save it.

Medieval Serbia, in less then a generation it all went into the shitter.
Byzantine Empire, they were the rulers of Europe for the most of the Middle Ages
Germany, they were the industrial powerhouse of Europe, some of the best thinkers and scientists were from Germany, now it's Germanistan
Poland, as the leader of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, they owned a large amount of land, yet were annhilated so swiftly by hungry neighbors.
Hungary, they were pretty stronk during rennaisance era, but got taken by kebab and then by Austria
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, they were the ruler of the world before WWI, a global powerhouse before and during WWII and after WWII they became Britbong.

I find it sort of funny that Serbia rekt the Byzantines only to be devoured by kebab alongside them.

The problem with the Byzantines is that no one was really friends with them. The Sassanids, the Muslims, Pechenegs, Bulgarians, and even the Rus weren't nice. By the time the Turks came as the Seljuks and invaded Anatolia, it wasn't an issue until one group, the Ottomans, united them. During this the crusades happened which were supposed to help the Byzantines but most of the time it messed them up. In actuality the only good friend they had were the Ethiopians and the Lombards but they would not last.

Ironically enough, America. Although I still love our country, and there are still people who provide at least a little hope, our nation has become a degeneracy filled place filled with corruption and really just plain stupidity. It makes you wonder what happened to the American spirit that helped us accomplish things like building the Hoover Dam, colonizing the West, going to the moon, etc. Now what are we? A bunch of politically correct cucks that are too afraid to say that you disagree with someone or else face being overran by ignorant mobs of "Progressives". FML man.

Had Stefan Uroš IV Dušan not died suddenly, I imagine things would've ended differently? He wasn't even 50 when he died.

Spain....from 1500 to 1800 she had huge amount of wealth and power. Her vast empire rivaled those of Britain and France. But, in less than a century she lost all of it.

Well, we would've replaced the Byzantines and maybe not be a great power, but we would have great influence.

I was also thinking about the great Khmer people who are now modern day Cambodians. Their great *Hindu/Buddhist* nation produced great monasteries, poetry, and even Ankor Wat. But it declined after Southern Chinese refugees invaded and made Thailand. Then it declined further because of the French occupation. After the Vietnam war, it's now a glorified minefield.

I'd say the Empire held by the Nawab of Hyderabad in India. He was the richest person on Earth at one time!

I wouldn't say the Brits were industrious. They used foul methods to stop the cultivation of muslin in india and forced everyone to use their highly inferior grade of cotton. They built their own empire on the backs of the hundreds of kingdoms annexed in India and around the world.
