I'm a high schooler and I go to a public school, would it be acceptable to talk to the school nurse about penis related questions? I would talk to my dad but I haven't seen him since May and it would be wired to talk to my step dad. I'm just not sure who to ask/ show what's going on

I think you should see your family doctor/urologist about your penis related questions.

probably the better option, but then again, the school nurse should be qualified to handle such situations and I am sure it is not the first time the nurse would have been approached with such questions before. if anything, they might refer them to their normal doctor anyways

Yeah its appropriate, nurses are trained and very knowledgable people, they also have a no judgement rule where everyone no matter race or religion or what ever deserves treatment so don't worry if your scared or think its not appropriate. You could also ask your school counselor if your questions are more non health related. Also both of them usually have free condoms if you need them and are also bound to a confidentiality agreement so they wont tell your parents unless your life is in danger they wont do anything with out your permission.

How would one go about bringing that up to the nurse?

you should be able to go in and say can I come in some time to ask some private questions to you. they will either do it right then or make you an appointment. at that point you can ask your questions then. just be honest

Exactly this just be straight up about it maybe mention you don't feel comfortable with your step dad and she will be more understanding.

oh for sure. people in her position will understand teens don't like to talk about that type of stuff with their parents or step parents.

Today, we had a visit from the nurse during Health class and she was able to answer any questions anyone had, whether it was about the body or not. Your school nurse may be able to do the same but it's best to ask if it is ok with her first before going right into it

I am sorry you are not close enough to your dad to discuss that. But a nurse is probably the best option. I would suggest going to a teen clinic instead so it would be confidential. I understand. My dad did not give me the talk until two years after I hit puberty and I was like thanks for the late information.

I dont see what would be so inappropriate about talking to the school nurse about penis related problems. I am sure she would make herself available to you to answer any questions you might have to the best of her ability, and if she wasnt able, I am sure she would recommend that you see your primary doctor and speak with him about such things.

My suggestion is to go the direct route and tell them exactly what your problem is. It is not like the school nurse or your school counselor are there to report on you or to cause you problems. If anything, those folks are there to help you no matter what your issue is. Considering some of the awful things that come across their desks on a daily basis something like a penis problem would be a welcome change than dealing with issues of neglect, abuse, etc.

Basically, just be honest about your problem, and you will be assisted.

Or if you have soon a physical exam the school doctor will talk you about it and so you can ask him related questions :)

If you can't go to the nurse or your father. Use the internet?
