At least 18 people have been killed in several shootings in the French capital, Paris, as well as explosions near the Stade de France.

French media say at least 15 people have been killed near the Bataclan arts centre. A hostage taking is under way, with reports of up to 60 held.

Reports suggest some spectators are leaving the hall, with police raiding the venue.

Live updates here. (http://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-europe-34815972)

Emphasis on several shootings. So it's organised. There's reports of indications it could be Islamists. That is, one journalist (https://twitter.com/edesplanques) said his friend was at Bataclan concern and heard mentions of Syria during the attack, so take it with a pinch of salt.

French police have also raised the death toll to 26.

---

11:01 (GMT) Edit: Reported use of Kalashnikovs as per BBC correspondent on Twitter.

Hollande just declared a state of emergency and closed it's borders.

Death toll has also jumped to at least 30 as per reuters.

11:47 (GMT) Edit: Reports of another explosion at the Stade de France. Possible suicide attack.

French armed forces deployed on the streets of Paris.

Reports of an arrest. Reports that arrestee has ISIL connections as per CNN.

12:00 (GMT) Edit: Death toll has also risen to at least 49.

Operation at Bataclan concluded. Two attackers dead. No report as to the hostages.

12:09 (GMT) Edit: Reports of hostages being attacked with explosives. Death toll could rise a significant amount.

12:35: Death toll, as per Reuters, stands at about 140: 100 from the concert hall and 40 from the other attacks.

sqishy
November 14th, 2015, 08:09 AM
Well no surprise that ISIL has clamed responsibility - whether they actually have or not should not be determined by what they claim, because they could just take the opportunity as it comes, like they have with the still-debated plane crash in Sinai. It's highly likely they are involved. This is complex as it always was, and I have my (probably) outlying views on terrorism, etc.

Death toll at least 128 so far, and 180+ injured, 99 critically so.

The problem is that foreign actors haven't agreed on what the ultimate outcome should be. You have a situation where foreign actors are targeting each other's proxies as the best means of preserving the statues-quo. However there is ground being made: despite infighting the Kurds still push in Northern Iraq and the ISF are descending on Ramadi. It's less optimistic in Syria where the FSA are going to need to reposition themselves towards Homs if the offensive in Aleppo is to be maintained.

I'm pessimistic regardless though. ISIL losing their conventional fighting abilities might lead to more unconventional attacks: focus on Western assets and inspire a climate of repression. There could be no better recruitment drive than the further westernisation of the conflict.

Perhaps fewer bombings/drones/etc in the middle east which kill off serious numbers of people after time. What is the phrase used? Innocent civilians.
The definiton of terrorism can be flexed the other direction at the same time. The horror is on both ends.

Terrible. I was watching it last night with a couple of friends. I called up a friend of mine who is currently hosting a French foreign exchange student, and the French girl was in tears apparently.

I don't even know where or how to put the blame. I'm not blaming the refugees necessarily, but I think this is clear evidence that allowing thousand of undocumented immigrants from an unstable region brings up the possibility of shit like this happening. Urgent: Statement about the Blessed Paris Invasion on the French Crusaders

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

The Almighty said: “And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allah! But Allah's (Torment) reached them from a place whereof they expected it not, and He cast terror into their hearts so that they destroyed their own dwellings with their own hands and the hands of the believers. Then take admonition, O you with eyes (to see).” [Al-Hashr: 2]

In a blessed attack for which Allah facilitated the causes for success, a faithful group of the soldiers of the Caliphate, may Allah dignify it and make it victorious, launched out, targeting the capital of prostitution and obscenity, the carrier of the banner of the Cross in Europe, Paris… Youths who divorced the world and went to their enemy seeking to be killed in the cause of Allah, in support of His religion and His Prophet, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, and his charges, and to put the nose of His enemies in the ground. So they were honest with Allah, we consider them thusly, and Allah conquered through their hands and cast in the hearts of the Crusaders horror in the middle of their land, where eight brothers wrapped in explosive belts and armed with machine rifles, targeted sites that were accurately chosen in the heart of the capital of France, including the Stade de France during the match between the Crusader German and French teams, where the fool of France, Francois Hollande, was present.

[They also targeted] the Bataclan Conference Center, where hundreds of apostates had gathered in a profligate prostitution party, and other areas in the 10th and 11th and 18th [arrondissements] and in a coordinated fashion. So Paris shook under their feet, and its streets were tight upon them, and the result of the attacks was the death of no less than 100 Crusaders and the wounding of more than those, and unto Allah is all praise and gratitude.

Allah had granted our brothers their wish and gave them what they loved, for they detonated their belts in the gatherings of the disbelievers after running out of ammunition, we ask Allah to accept them among the martyrs and make us follow them.

Let France and those who walk in its path know that they will remain on the top of the list of targets of the Islamic State, and that the smell of death will never leave their noses as long as they lead the convoy of the Crusader campaign, and dare to curse our Prophet, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, and are proud of fighting Islam in France and striking the Muslims in the land of the Caliphate with their planes, which did not help them at all in the streets of Paris and its rotten alleys. This attack is the first of the storm and a warning to those who wish to learn.

Allah is Great

“But honor, power and glory belong to Allah, and to His Messenger (Muhammad), and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not.” [From Al-Munafiqun: 8]

[...]the fool of France, Francois Hollande[...]

gotta concur with Mohammad here

one would think al-Hollande would be super popular in the Islamosphere for his enthusiastic efforts to bring as many of the Prophet's faithful into France as possible, but it seems in real life they actually hate the West and would like it to burn. at least they do the jobs French ppl won't

I heard Hollande's speech and I just loved it when he ended with "vive la république, vive la France."
Our presidents should say that in English in our speeches imagine: "long live the republic!" on every television and radio it would be great.

On another note this guy called
Shirvan on YouTube made a video about Islamic history. The last part he released was about the Khawaarji, who are the 8th century version of IS in effect. I think it is pertinent to see how like the Khawaarji rose up and destabilized the region IS has done the same. Maybe we will learn from their downfall too.

If we want to avoid living in fear for ever,it's time to deport all these terrorists and their sympathizers out of Europe, and make sure they won't come back,it's time to close the borders,to avoid bringing more and more terrorists and whatsoever...

No,serously,we've been attacked, but we won't change our way of life, show they that we are afraid (I don't say that some people aren't afraid and i understand them...),if we do,they won. The life continues (It would probably take some weeks before everything gets fine as before the attacks...)but the security has been reinforced,10.000 soldiers have been deployed, protecting strategic places etc.. and France is currently in a 3 months state of emergency. The Police is still investigating, and already raided a lot of houses, and managed to capture a lot of "terrorists",including a lot of weapons, and even rockets.....

Woah, it's things like this that show just how different France and Lebanon are in that respect. While we were attacked just a day before you did, no one is afraid (at least, not anymore).

Seriously, the police sent out a warning not to visit this specific mall because they captured a suspicious person there, yet I still went today and it was literally full of people. We just don't care.

Lol, well we happen to be in the perfect spot for foreign influences (such as Iran, Palestine, Syria and plenty more) to wreak havoc and manipulate us like a puppet. Sometimes I wish we were an island to escape our shitty map neighbors but that's most likely geographically impossible. :)

That's one good thing about authoritarianism, as bad as it is. You can make sure documents and reports of terrorism stay silent so hysteria doesn't spread. And then you can clean up the mess quickly and quietly without debating the semantics.
