I'd really like to know how many of you have heard of Rammstein before.

For those of you who haven't, it's a German, I guess you could say metal band. And yes, they sing in German.

Until lately I didn't even know that anyone outside of Germany knew Rammstein. But today I watched a documentary about them where they mentioned that their concert in Madison Square Garden in 2010 was sold out in about twenty minutes.

I really like Rammstein. Somehow they're different. And a lot of their lyrics are actually quite deep, which, well, you won't really notice if you don't speak German. But I think it would still be worth a try if you like metal.

Here's my favorite Rammstein song:

Everybody in this world who likes metal must like Rammstein.

I love Amerika, Dalai Lama and Reise Reise principally even if they've got a lot of good musics. I 'got all their discography. :D

Wow, I had no clue. Now I feel a little stupid for not knowing that.
But I feel kinda cool, too, for having been born in what's basically Rammstein's home town. ^-^

No, you're not. In fact, I have a few friends like you. And they're even German.
I guess Rammstein is just one of those things you either love or don't like at all.

I think they're pretty good. They sound awesome. In terms of complexity in their songs, their isn't much there but they definitely make up for it with their awesome sound.

My personal favourite are Sonne and Tier.

Not really. I din't like them either. If someone plays it at a party, OK, they're not bad but just aren't my taste.

Have you heard of Laibach? It's a Slovenian band (also singing mostly in German), I think Rammstein members somewhere said that Laibach influenced them a lot. They are pretty badass, I mean they had a concert in frickin' North Korea.

Spiel mit mir really creeps the hell out of me!
But at least it isn't based on a true story. I mean, we all know that things like that exist, but that this guy from Mein Teil is still alive somewhere in a German prison kinda outmatches it, you know? Plus, I read that he could be released in 2017. CREEPY.

No, I haven't heard of them, but I just listened to Tanz Mit Laibach. Kinda cool. But I had to concentrate pretty hard to catch what they were singing because of their accents. xD
But I'm definitely give a couple more of their songs a try, thanks for the recommendation!

I really enjoy their music, very powerful at times, and fun to jam to. My friends comment, "I liked Rammstein, until I figured out their lyrics, they can keep what they do to elephants to themselves..."

Their all time hit is Life is Life (Leben Heißt Leben). I also noticed their accents being different than accents of some German bands I listened. I remember when my grandma who lived in Germany for 15 years told me she had a hard time understanding southern Germans, especially from Wurtemberg and another southern area. She's very fluent in German, she was a nurse there for years after all, so I guess their accents are a lot different.

I'm German, so I get every single line, but to be honest it makes me love Rammstein even more. Sure, at least half of their songs are about sex, but somehow most of them are still kinda meaningful. Mein Herz Brennt, for example, is super poetic and every single line has a deep meaning behind it.

Understanding people from southern Germany, especially Bavaria, is even difficult for those whose first language is German, believe me.
But if Laibach is a Slovenian band, isn't it obvious that their singer's accent sounds different from German bands?

I personally like "Mutter" from that point of view

I don't quite get Mutter. I've read that it's about a clone, though, which would make sense.
I really like Mann gegen Mann. Its message isn't as hidden those of many other Rammstein songs, but I really like that.

By the way, what do you guys think of Frühling in Paris? It's so different from all their other songs, I don't know what to think of it.

I dunno, I dun layk them, while I was listening to them, my favourite was Waidmanns Heil or Reise, Reise. I listen sometimes to Division Germania, Sleipnir and Nordfront. Also Wolfnacht is sehr gut.

Well, it really depends on accent flexibility. When I speak English, I can copy a lot of accents, like Dixie, Scottish and some Irish accents. English (as in from England) accents are a pain though. I imagine if I studied and listened to German in my everyday life like I did to English, that I would speak it (almost) the same way like the accent I kept listening to.

Love it. It's one of my favorites (including Amour, Bückstabü, and Rammlied)

Mann gegen Mann is a little intense for me, but still a legit song. I like Frühling in Paris though, and I am sure it is based on a life event, like Green day- Wake me up when September ends, is based on Billy Joel's experience of when his father passed away. You're close to what Mutter is about, it's more about of a test tube child, and how he was never able to experience the true feelings of having a biological mother

Guys, I can't get over Liebe ist für alle da.
I love it purely as a song, but the lyrics are pretty awesome as well, though creepy.
If I got everything right, it's about a guy who's fantasizing about this woman and ends up raping her.

And then there's Spring. While listening to it for the first time, I was just staring at my screen trying to get over how much this song describes our society.

I have several Rammstein songs on my phone. I don't understand a word they're saying and I have looked up the translations on a few. Interesting stuff, but I like it more for the music itself. Plus German is a badass language to listen to. Very metal.
