My friend went through a rough break up today and I'm going to visit him tomorrow, what should we do to get his mind off the breakup or to help him cope?

Do what you two would normally do, be it playing video games or jogging together. You don't have to do anything specific or exclusive just because he's gone through a break up. What he really needs is to have natural bonding time with his friend that doesn't seem different from the norm. It'll get his mind off of things.
It'd probably be in your best interest not to mention his ex at all.

Probably the stuff you do regularly. Like play games, watch movies whatever you think will engage him enough to get his mind off the breakup.
Edit: Sorry for the repetition but I couldn't have guessed I'd get ninja'ed and how

Yeah!! What they said, just do the normal stuff you do with him and don't act any different or he'll know something's up. Then he might be doing something cause of the break up to cheer him up and will only remind him of it

Just be yourself.....and available...in case he wants to talk

Your a good friends, good luck

Make sure he is not skipping meals or starving himself first. Also comfort him. Give him a hug or tell him things will get better. Tell him to cry and let it out, do not keep it bottled inside. Keep his mind occupied on other things: watch TV, play video games, look at bikini photos online haha. Anything to keep him from thinking of his ex.
