View Full Version : Single on Valentine's Day

Just had a conversation with a straight friend having trouble in his love life and feels that every Valentine's day he is discriminated against because he is single. The fact that many years he has been bullied and made fun of, being called Forever Alone, a creep, and so on. In all honesty I can sympathized with him on terms of discrimination and how it feels (I am gay after all).
I'm just asking for those opinions as if the discrimination of the single's actually exist? Especially around Valentine's day.

No, not at all. In any way.
As extremely bleak as it is to say this what I've gathered is that in my school about 70% of the guys are single at the moment-only about 1% of them get laughed at for being single and this 1% sadly get teased for about everything.
I think it's important to create a divide between discrimination and friends/classmates laughing at each other. So yeah it seems like your clutching at straws here

Correction to the title. Valentine's day. I really hate my ipad at times. Apologies for the grammatical error.
Corrected it. You're welcome. -Cygnus David

I agree with you, Harry. There's a difference between discrimination and teasing/laughing at someone. I think this falls under the latter category.

I'm lucky to not be single for the first time in 15 years and I was never discriminated against for it, nor was anyone else as barely anyone was in a relationship.
I would just ignore any comments.

Discriminating someone just because of a stupid holiday and a stupid relationship? I have seriously never even heard of this happening.

People used to tell me that. I would just say 'how come you don't have a girl?' or just make a nasty 'with your mom' remark.

Not for me, in fact most people in my school are not dating, so if someone's in a relationship, the two students get teased and that sort of thing but no discrimination at all.

I have always been single. I usually brush off any snide remarks from it.

Discrimination against singles... No don't think so.
It's just some ''look at ugly bob he is single because he is so ugly!'' it's just a tool the bully uses.
Same as if someone bullied you because of idk your family being poor or whatever *BS* it wouldn't be discrimination just bullying.

Nobody I know or care about is in a relationship right now so we're all equally alone lol but if he feels that he's getting bullied for that he shouldn't even care because that's s stupid thing to make fun of someone for.

I wouldnt call it descrimination really, but a lot of my friends get the "third Wheel" name, but its just in a jokey way.
