If you're both open about sexual things, and you're good friends, I see no problem in asking. If they don't want to though, respect their decision and their privacy. That's probably the best advice I can give you. This is one of the few occasions where I don't recommend just getting straight to the point, don't just flat out ask (Don't tiptoe around the question, either).
