So, does actually being interested in how the law works count as a good enough reason to go? :P

This. We must know.

Here's how it works :
An entity with the necessary power to dish out punishment can enact laws, and laws are a representation of that entity's will. Whether or not this entity voluntarily restricts its power to enact laws is up to itself only.
Meanwhile, a cadre of jurists whose sole task is to make sure the plebs can't understand either their rights or obligations draft said laws to ensure the elite status of those who are trained to read the law.
I just saved you three years of bachelor's, thank me later.

No, I'm not exactly looking forward to kissing my life goodbye for the first 5-10 years of employment, slaving away and dividing my time in 3 minutes increments (that's how it's done here, even more ridiculous than the 6 in the article), spending more time writing up bills than doing actual law, and being a serf to miserable people with ego complexes.
I'm staying at university for a master's in either law or translation. I'll decide later.
Are you ready for the Bar?
I could be, but I chose not to take it right away.

I could answer that with "pursuant to section 128.1 a) of the Law on the Bar, I am unable to give any information that amounts to giving judicial advice", but that would not be very fun, and I'm feeling in an illegal mood anyway.
In Canada, it's only illegal to cut the label off any machined merchandise containing certain kinds of fibers (including mattresses, but also teddy bears and bedding and cushions and stuff of that nature) when it's the seller that does it before selling it to the customer. Once you've bought it, you can cut it off.

You did not know that before you started???

Oh no, I knew. I just figured people would not take it to extremes, but they do.
When they talk about a "competitive atmosphere" in the faculty, for one, I did not realize that meant people going at those cocktails (prestigious law firms organize these things so that the students may kiss some ass in an attempt to land a coveted corporate law article position) would actually talk shit about you behind your back with prospective employers and I also did not realize it meant that people will actually attempt to actively sabotage you, if you've perceived as anything like a threat.
Thankfully for me, I kept my head down. Some of my friends...did not, and paid the price.
Likewise when talking about massive egos, and everything else. Lawyers are some of the most self-centered people on Earth, it seems like, and one of the teachers at the faculty actually spends more time discussing her resume than teaching anything worthwhile. I never envisioned a teacher coming two fingers away from giving test on a student's knowledge of her resume.
