I'm not a vegetarian but I believe in animal rights, but not to the point of just eating vegetables and lentils. I don't beleive that being a vegetarian actually does anything for animals rights... yes you may have saved one chicken from being eaten by you but some other guy's gonna eat it instead. If you believe in animal rights there are other ways to protest their rights that actually do things. Also because I'm doing a Hospitality and Catering course at the moment we had to do an assignment on vegetarians and I realised that being a Vegetarian is also an "in" thing to do and has become part of popular culture. Also I believe that being a vegetarian it can be a risk to your health as you don't get some of the vitimins and minerals from meat products. But yes if you want to spend your time eating nuts for protein go for it. :D

Hello :)

I'm a vegetarian, formally ovo-lacto vegetarian. Not because of the animals, I really don't like meat.

Kind of how I am with eggs, the reason I'm lacto vegetarian and not lacto-ovo vegetarian is simply because I hate eggs.

I don't eat meat because I don't feel comfortable eating animals. I know someone else will probably eat it, but for me I just can't morally validate eating animals.

Haha I would have kept going ,but my doctor said I'd lost too much weight with my medications on top of being veggie and he was worried.I dont always eat meat, I still have my veggie meals occasionally.

Mostly no, I don't eat products with egg except for example if I'm in a foreign country or sometimes in cake. It's not a necessity for me to be egg free but I am as much as possible, I just don't like things with egg.

I'm not being a vegetarian for animal rights OR just trying to be "in"
I'm doing it because I just don;t like meat. Notice how I DIDN'T make a big long rant in the OP, I just merely asked who else was a veggie...

Nor was I saying that you were, but many people beleive that if they do, do it they help animals. When in fact it doesn't. :)

i've been vegan for over a year now. :)

I'm not a vegetarian but I believe in animal rights, but not to the point of just eating vegetables and lentils. I don't beleive that being a vegetarian actually does anything for animals rights... yes you may have saved one chicken from being eaten by you but some other guy's gonna eat it instead. Also I believe that being a vegetarian it can be a risk to your health as you don't get some of the vitimins and minerals from meat products. that logic is completely flawed.

yes you may have saved one chicken from being eaten by you but some other guy's gonna eat it instead.

how does that work? if you don't buy from the meat industry, you don't support it. if enough people stop buying dead chickens, they will decrease the amount they kill.

Based on these figures, Noam calculated that each year the average person consumes:

Roughly 130 shellfish
40 fish
26 chickens
One turkey,
Nearly half a pig
A little more than a tenth of a cow
...and that is (apparently) how many animals you save a year being vegan because you don't consume them. if you slaughtered animals yourself, you would see how many animals you actually consume in a year, and how many you save by not eating them.

If you believe in animal rights there are other ways to protest their rights that actually do things.

not buying animal products does do something. the meat industry is a huge business, sure, and they will still continue to kill animals for those who aren't veg. but the $1.38 per pound of turkey that you don't buy every year for Thanksgiving does make a difference when more people aren't buying it. that's like saying one presidential election vote doesn't make a difference so you shouldn't vote. every cent and every vote counts.

I realised that being a Vegetarian is also an "in" thing to do and has become part of popular culture.

doesn't that kind of prove my point? the more people who are veg, the less the meat industry receives? but yes, vegetarianism is becoming more and more popular as the years go by, but i fail to see your point here.

Also I believe that being a vegetarian it can be a risk to your health as you don't get some of the vitimins and minerals from meat products.

a simple Google search would show you that a balanced veg diet is completely healthy, if not better for your health. i'm studying to be a nutritionist and i can say that you can easily get all of the vitamins that meat has in other sources.

But yes if you want to spend your time eating nuts for protein go for it. :D

it's like people think that people who are veg only eat straight up nuts for protein all of the time, which isn't bad and is actually preferred, but it's so not true. nuts can be turned into other things such as meat replacements, sauces, dressings, etc. it's not like we're deprived in any way from the things that we used to enjoy when we were omnivores.

Well UKish yes, but I'm from South Africa, and I'm living in Ireland (definitley NOT the UK)

But I read and liked Animal farm a lot. And as to Mr. Bean, I love it, and as to Python, suffice it to say that I met Michael Palin...

I'm not vegetarian, but I do prefer to eat organic or locally grown animals/food. Keep in mind that most vegetables you buy at the store kill thousands of birds, insects, and rodents with pesticides! It's not just the biggest, 'most beautiful', animals that count you know! :D
