So I had a session with my counsellor today. She had referred me to a neurologist because I was getting a ton of migraines and hallucinations. She was going through my family history and noticed the shitload of cancer on my father's side. She's now updating her referral and trying to push the brain scan forward because of the slight possibility that it could be cancer. I'm getting kind of anxious now because my aunt was diagnosed with terminal cancer in her pancreas two weeks ago (she's only got a few weeks left) and the only signs she had were slight stomach aches whereas I'm getting loads of migraines and stuff. I mean, it's probably only a slight possibility but you know how these things stick in your head.
So yeah, I just kind of needed to get that out and if anyone actually knows what they do in brain scans it'd be really helpful :)

Pancreas cancer is always symptom free up to nearly the very end, so it's not one to go by. I think in your case a brain scan is in order aside from any cancer possibilities. I've had a full brain scan for my neurological problems. It's long, boring, noisy and the room is cold. They can probably loop you up a little if you start feeling anxious. But it's really no big deal. Waiting for test results on possible cancer really sucks - but it could be a lot of other things causing it, so it's not like that's the only thing you're getting tested for. The very best of luck to you.

It totally depends what type of scan you're having. You'll probably have an MRI though. You'll have to remove anything magnetic like earrings or bracelets or any clothes with magnetic things on them.
You'll then lie down on a table type thing and be put inside the round scanner for a while. They will then be able to see an image of your brain.
Brain tumours are rare, and brain cancers even rarer. I totally understand why you're nervous though, I would be.
Good luck x

Thanks both of you it helps knowing what's going to happen :) The reason I was worried is because there have been a few brain tumors in my family but hopefully I'm worrying for nothing.

So just wanted to say that I got some of my results and while they're not sure what I have it's definitely not brain tumours :) Which is quite a relief :P

That's great to hear. Yeah, thankfully they've ruled that out for me as well, both 3 years ago when I started having serious physical problems, and now. (Unexplained syncopal episodes. So what I had before, but worse, actually. They're going to rule out heart problems and seizure disorders next. One way or another, it looks like I'm finally going to be able to see a psychiatrist and hopefully be put on medication if they decide I need it. [Not so thrilled about the prospect of the medication itself, but if I really am bipolar or something like it, I can't avoid being medicated. It's dangerous.] I'm actually going to the cardiologist tomorrow.)
Hope they figure out what's wrong, and that it's nothing serious though! :( Good luck!
