I think that in the near future, I want to start making real recordings of me performing music I've written. Anyone have any suggestions as to what recording/editing software I can use? I'd prefer if it were free but it wouldn't hurt to spend some money if I needed to do so. Please quote in reply and thanks everyone.

What type of recordings exactly?
Also, by "edits" define in more detail what you mean.

There's many programs out there, if you want simply an audio recorder that allows cutting, volume mixing, etc etc I would recommend Camtasia (paid, though has a trial I believe). Camtasia's also great if you need video.

Otherwise, for more advanced audio production (non-digital productions, ie. physical instrument recording, etc) I've heard Audacity is good.

I personally use FL Studios, though it's more (imo) for digital music genres, not overly for physically instrumental recording... It can however be used for that, I'd assume there's better programs for your needs than FL though. :yeah:

Yeah, I'd be doing physical recordings. I have microphones already set up near my piano that I use to review my practice sessions. I want to start making recordings of me playing my pieces, hopefully as a start to something I could do in later life.
Also, by edits, I mean noise reduction (it's just gonna be my music room, not a sound-isolated space), fade outs, simple stuff
