View Full Version : I'm getting circumcised; what "surgery" can I tell people I'm having instead?

I know it's not good to lie, but I think I need to.
I'm getting circumcised (for medical reasons) and I need to miss 5 days of school and work + a month of sports. When people ask me what surgery I had, what can I say? I feel like I can't say abdominal or something because some people might want to see the scar. Maybe a groin hernia?
Anybody else have any experience with older child/adult circumcision? I know it will be painful for a while. What did you tell people?

I agree with one of the people above, gall bladder would be good

Why not tell the truth? If you are in a locker room situation where you change or shower
with other guys, they are going to see it anyway. You may not be out for that long a time
anyway. Seems like some guys who have had that surgery were able to go back to school
or work a day or two later - not to say you should rush it if you don't feel up to it. It's going
to look pretty awful for a week or two, but then should improve quickly.
Or you could also say, if anyone asks, that it's too personal a question and you are not
going to answer. Of course then they are going to speculate. Or you could be vague about
it: "I had an infection that had to be treated with surgery."

Well do you shower with any of these groups of people? Just say it's tonsillitis or something like that, you could even say to the people at school that it was bad flu but personally I would just tell them the truth!

But, may I ask why do you want to hide it? For how long, just for a while or what?
Yeah, you could say it's an hernia. I had 2 and you can barely see them.

I think why he wants to lie is beside the point.
Gallbladder removal leaves upper abdominal scars which he wouldn't have.
A hernia operation scar would be below the belt line and in the same area of sensitivity.
While I believe honesty is the best policy; if he says hernia operation, his mates will likely
to let it go at that. If he says circumcision, I bet it will cause a stir and he will be pestered some.

Tonsillitis would be the best option in my opinion. No scar and it's a good excuse for sport because of 'breathing difficulties'.

I was surprised that I did not really have to go into detail, but when asked, I stuck to this story: went to the dentist for oral surgery - that's about the same severity, and I was only 'down' for two days, at home, not in the hospital. I did it over winter break, which really helped reduce the questions as well. I told some of my close male friends later, but I knew they were not going to spread it.

My friend had that surgery. He would say "I had surgery in my lower abdomen"' . That area includes anything below your belly button, including genitals. So, you would not be telling a lie.

I was circumcised when I was 13. I had it done at the start of Christmas break and went back to school after New Years so I did not miss any school. After 2 days I was off strong pain pills and do most everything. Missing a whole week sounds a bit long. Anyway, because of PE I could not hide it so I just told the truth. When we showered, before Christmas they knew I had a foreskin and after my foreskin was gone so what the heck. In my area very few boys are uncircumcised so I expect I was talked about more when I had a foreskin. After they knew I got cut, about all that was said was welcome to the cut world. The healing does go quick and you will be able to do more than you think. I suggest telling the truth. Good luck.

Nobody has seen my penis except my doctors and surgeons, and my parents. Not even my sister (to my knowledge). I've always been uncomfortable with showing my junk. Once the wound heals I might be more open since I personally prefer the aesthetics of a circumcised penis (though that's not why I'm having the operation).

I would say that you had a hernia. The battle wounds idea is also a good idea! ;)

Probably the best advice
