So I've noticed that people who listen to hard music like screamo or just hard rock, are usually people who deal with depression or self harm. You guys think this is true?

Also, does your music choice vary depending what mood you are in? Mine does. When I am extremely pissed off or depressed or anything, I listen to harder music. But other times I might listen to something that's not as hard.

My mood usually influences what song I have playing. If I'm feeling pissed or irritated, I'll put on harder stuff. If I'm feeling good, I might put on something softer, or the hard stuff, just cause I like it so much XD

Ok thats the biggest stereotype i listen to when it comes to music! i hate when people say that and no its not true. Anybody self harms or gets depressed, not just metalheads and rockers. And when im pissed i tend to listen to bands such as Born of Osiris and Asking Alexandrias early stuff. when i feel like a badass i blast Amon Amarth and Capture the Crown. when im feeling happy i tend to blast post hardcore amd when sad as like i miss someone i blast Pop Punk.

I wasn't stereotyping or saying that all people who are metalheads and rockers self harm or depressed. But whatever.

I self harm and have attempted suicide three times, and I've noticed that when I'm more upset I listen to hard music. And I've noticed that with other people. So before you start jumping to conclusions... consider my true reason. Thanks.

ahhh ok i was just trying to say because lterally everyday in school i listen to people say that rock and metal are for people who self harm. But yea i understand what you meant. sorry for kinda snapping or something. and ive done it too and attempted suicide twice and gone through 2 depressions. i actually just got out of one less than 3 weeks ago.

If I'm sad, I like to listen to slower music, especially piano. If I'm angry, something fast and hard. So yeah, it depends on my mood.

i think sometimes i listen to certain songs depending on my mood. example...

when im angry i usually listen to im the type of person to take it personal by breathe carolina and sometimes anything by avenged sevenfold
when im sad/depressed its usually either nothing left to say by imagine dragons or time by hans zimmer

i could go on but you probably get the idea

I might listen to Death metal, but that doesn't mean I feel at all like mutilating genitals, babies and myself if the most gruesome ways :lol3:

None of the people I know who listen to 'hard' music are that depressed... they are actually quite energetic.

Just because you listen to a certain music doesn't mean your depressed, but music can change your mood at the moment.

I choose songs depending on my mood, I consider myself as a "happy" person most of the time so I usualy listen to "happy" songs :) But if I'm sad, a "happy song" won't help me get over my sadness, only time helps me get back my happiness :D
