I don't know, the most I've had was 184, the least 17. It varies.

it varies based on the time of day and day of week.
i've seen it as low as three.
One of the problems with this are time zones.
Like when you are awake and online, a chunk of
the VT population is asleep or in school or w/e

I know, but 5 minutes before I refreshed the page, the list of "New Posts" was around 4 pages long, then I clicked the New Posts button again and they all dissapeared. It's not a big deal at all, I was just curious

yeah that happens to me too. nbd but its like like wtf?
i guess each thread has got an expiration time limit.
two things i do to maintain it is, to either click the back
button instead of refreshing, or open stuff up in tabs.

haha yeah :) I usually have like 20 VT tabs open at once, because I dont want to forget a thread that I'm interested in...

The reason why this is happening is because the site(/our server) doesn't store the information on which threads you have/haven't read, so they all automatically get marked as read when you idle out for 30 minutes or sign out. After that, only threads that have been posted since you've been online or since you last emptied your cookies will be shown as "new posts". The New Posts page doesn't always accurately reflect the number of new posts there have been because of this, they appear to be read although there have likely been a lot more that are unread.
