View Full Version : Lexus or Audi?

I'm going to get my own car soon (1-2 months) and I've narrowed it down to either a Lexus or an Audi.

The Lexus would most likely be a 2008-2011 IS250 and the Audi would be a 2009-2011 A4. Which one is better? I've heard a lot about Audi's not being reliable and expensive to maintain. My parents have a Lexus, and it's really reliable.

I'm honestly stuck.

Hmmm I just happen to like Audi's more because my next door neighbour has one...As to which is the better car....I honestly don't know

I think Audi looks way better than Lexus because Lexus is just a Toyota with nicer seats and design... However, because of that, they are all very reliable because of how reliable Toyota is.

While Audis look awesome, they need repairs which are expensive. Most Audis also need premium fuel which is a lot more than regular unleaded.

Since your parents are going to buy you an expensive upscale car, money doesn't seem to be too big of a factor from my point of view... I don't know your family though, so I can't really make that assumption.

In a nutshell, get the Audi if money isn't a big deal. If money does matter, then get the Lexus. Both are great cars.

Lexus has more features but thats purely because of the model its jut got a better build. But none of the cars can be converted to gas. Shame.

I have to agree with Rob.

While I would absolutely love and hope to buy an Audi one day, I think it really almost narrows down to your driving habits. Sorry for assuming here, but I think if you're going to be getting a luxury car, you're gonna be using it more than to just get to/from school or work; you might go driving around for your daily errands, doing stuff with friends, and maybe the occasional road or day trip, about 100+ miles/2.5 hours one way in my book. I'm no car expert, but I personally think that Toyota/Lexus' engines are some of the most reliable out there. My mom has a '00 Camry, still running fine, minus some worn out brakes (compared to our '07 Suburban that had a few problems with the engine and a tranny replacement). If you're planning on using your car as more of a commuter vehicle than a "recreation" vehicle, I'd definitely go with the Lexus as you could easily put 250k miles on the engine. The Audi's are really nice too, but as Rob said they aren't *as* reliable as the Lexus. I think the A4's interiors and exteriors surpass the Lexus IS line, but I probably personally wouldn't buy one if I was planning on using it as a commuter vehicle.

Audi dude, I believe Audi's work well, but giving them service could be way more expensive than service for a Lexus so keep that in mind.

Audi seems like a younger persons car
and Lexus an older persons car.

So I have an Audi.
With an Audi you'll get one of two things, you'll get a good one, or you'll get a bad one.
If you get a good one, it will be super reliable, you'll hardly have issues, but the things that wear out will be expensive to fix, brakes can be a few thousand dollars, timing belts are stupid expensive ect. All stuff that wears out, not "repairs" but more maintenance.

Now if you get a "bad" Audi, being one that isn't reliable, you're life will be a living hell. Period. Always in the shop. Tons of issues. $$$$$$$$$$$

The Lexus doesn't have that factor. You either get a good Lexus, or you get a good Lexus.

I have a 2008 RS4, so basically the same as the A4. I've been lucky, I got a "good" one. It's been very reliable and I've really only had to do the general maintenance on it.
That said, my dad, who is an Audi master tech, also has a 2008 RS4. Completely different story. The only reason he still has it is because he can fix it all himself. If he had to take that thing into a shop, it'd be gone FAST. Even just parts, he probably spends close to $500 a month to keep the thing on the road, not including the stuff that wears out over time.

If I was choosing, and didn't have a mechanic in the family, Lexus. Reliability is key. You don't want to be a young girl driving home from a friend's house on a dark lonely road at midnight and have your car die. That just blows.

Pretty much this. To support it, my family only buys Toyota since, as Purple Floyd said, they are really reliable cars.

Yup, but Tech advances come way faster to Audi than VolksWagen. VAG develops the stuff for the highest cache brand >> Audi, and after it's been on the market for some time, then it gets implemented in VW, Sköda, and Seat.

If you get an Audi you won't be disappointed. It doesn't need repairs as often, telling you because we have a 2001 A4 and it's got over 200000 miles with just a Caudalimeter change covered under warranty.

Audi's TDIs are the very best, solid as rocks, so if you decide to go for an Audi you may want to consider the Diesel 2.0l 184Hp engine, and they start right up in thec old not like those 4.5l huge engines there, so don't be afraid

But 184hp is nothing lol young guys like to have fun you need to have atleast 250+ hp then the fun starts. Go look at the new nissan sentra nismo its a 1.8l turbo with 240+hp connected to a 6 speed manual or a cvt(which is gay) but whatever

Yes but my Audi A5 would blow that Nissan out of the water plus my Audi is more sporty and probably faster and Audi comes stock AWD that sets the standard for all other AWD sports cars

The second I saw this post I almost stabbed myself cause for me there is no competition. Audi will always win it by a landslide. For me at least. German cars are usually quite good (e.g BMW)

Honestly, coming from an enthusiast(no joke) I would get the lexus even though the audi may look better they are expensive to maintain and reliability can be an issue. Lexus's are reliable and are ok with the styling and performance

LEXUS is the best nice refined and it actually beat out the Audi and BMW in a comparison test on motor trend and they said it had the best ride best interior and great steering and handling
