Hi,

I'm a 15 year old boy and I turned 15 in August. When I was much younger, people would always think I was a girl on the phone and I would be told I have a "girl voice" by people in school sometimes. As I got older, my voice started to deepen more and I sound less feminine now. People often mistake me for my brother on the phone (he has a very deep voice) and I rarely am told I have a girly voice. However, I am wondering if my voice will get deeper at this age? Despite these things, whenever I hear myself on recording I think I sound nasally and girly and to be honest, stereotypically gay. I have had plenty of people say that they thought I was gay, and when I ask why, I usually get the response that it was my voice that led them to think that. Today I heard my voice on recording and I thought I sounded "gay" even though I am not and I'm now slightly concerned and upset about it.

Does a boys voice deepen after the age of 15 or am I going to be unsatisfied my entire life?

You shouldn't worry about how your voice sounds to be honest and if people are giving you stick for it then ignore them. Your voice doesn't define your sexuality and if they think that then they know nothing! Seriously have they heard that NFL player who came out recently he has a really deep "mascaline" voice and he's gay! A boys voice can drop up until he's about 18, you've got ages. :)

I've been told I have a childish voice, but thats because I do XD All I can say is that only a real tool would judge someone by their voice, so you really have nothing to be ashamed of. And it is possible that your voice will continue to get deeper, I know someone who's voice didnt break until they were like 17

Prolly a voice deepens until past 18.
No one likes how their voice sounds on a recording.
Im always taking speech lessons and you can learn
to control the pitch of your voice if it really matters to you.

You should be fine. Your voice has a chance to change later on in your teenage years still.

Voice change isn't as instant as people think. The voice you have after it changes will still change some especially if it has a hollow sound to it. I wouldn't worry. You just have to wait it out.

It might get a little more deeper but not to much from here

It can. It just depends on the person, like everything else in puberty. Have you ever heard a really old dude talk? A lot of really, really deep voices, whereas other old dudes have higher voices. It just depends. Your brother's voice might show how deep yours could possibly get, but there's just no telling. My voice is deep or whatever, it's not like a fuckin' weird ass deepness but it's about as deep as a lot of other guys my age. When I'm having fun, then I start going crazy and I've been told my voice will sometimes get deeper or higher. When I get drunk and start acting crazy is usually when it changes. Weird, huh?

You shouldn't worry about it too much yet - you've still got plenty of time to change - as my voice has only just gone down to be quite a lot deeper, and I'm 15. If you are really worried about it then you could always go to see a doctor, because they can do tests to see if your voice has broken or not, and then they might be able to do something about it

There's a difference between a lower and a mature voice.
Your voice van lower early in puberty, but you still speak the same way as before. (which is why your voice may crack)
You don't sound truly mature untill you are mature.

Everyone hates how their voice sounds in a recording. That's because it sounds so different to how we hear our voice ourselves. So you're feelings are normal. And the tone of your voice has nothing to do with your sexuality. The people teasing you about it are idiots :D

I don't know, I am 13 and my larynx and vocal chords have already deepened a lot, I sound like a fifteen year old, and it still is. I think I'm gonna have a really deep voice.

My voice is really high for my age. I sound about 8. I guess it kinda matches my height, it would be wierd for someone as small as me to have a really deep voice xD

Our voices always sound slightly different for others than for ourselves. This is becuase of the sound that travels only from outside the head and ear; for ourselves, it travels from outside as well as in, so the resonance sounds slightly different. I think that's why we sometimes lose our balance if we scream too loud, the powerful sound waves from the vocal chords disturb the fluid in the parts of our innernears that provides balance and stuffies... *sorry face with blush* sorry, nerd habits and impulses to overexplain.
