View Full Version : Why did my gym teacher ask a girl to help me in swimming?

I am doing the swimming unit in 9th grade gym and boys and girls do it together. I am not the best swimmer so when I started I had trouble staying up and falling underwater and the teacher asked a girl to pull me up and help me stay afloat. I have no problem with that girl but why would the gym teacher do that? Now all the boys in the class were probably laughing at me even secretly

maybe she's just a good swimmer so he thought she could be the most helpful or he might just want to help you get laid

either way would you rather have a half naked guy touching you or a half naked girl?

He may have been trying to humiliate you into trying harder.
Or maybe he is oblivious to gender when it comes to the buddy system.

I wish my school had a pool. I have a pond at home though and could swim before I could walk. Either way, my gym is the same time as the girls', but boys are on the football/baseball field, and girls are on the track/practice field so there isn't much of that.

As this doesn't relate to puberty, P101  Sports and Fitness, as it's swimming I think it'll fit better there.

Maybe the girl is a much better swimmer.
I can't see where the problem is.

Excuse me? Are you trying to say that because she is a girl she is supposed to be somehow inferior to you and unable to help you with something you're struggling with?

Unless said girl can't swim worth a damn, I don't see why you should have a problem with this at all.

The second one. For sure.

Sorry mods, I've been double posting a lot lately. I post a response and scroll up to find this. Now onto what I am actually quoting for: OP, correct me if I am wrong, but did you read the whole thing? He doesn't think a girl can't teach him, it's that the girl might make fun of him and make him look bad in front of other girls some of whom he may or may not like. Admittedly, guys do this to sometimes. But damn, you jumped to social justice and equality so fast you would have given Usain Bolt a run for his money. Of course, I could be completely wrong, and OP could just be a sexist pig, and this post would make me look like a massive presumptuous asshole (which I kind of am). But until such proof is given, I like to look on the better side of people

EDIT: I am a bit of a presumptuous asshole, but that still was a bit of an over reaction.
EDIT 2: yeah I am definitely a dick. I over-reacted way more than what was necessary, and I was a hypocritical bastard who didn't read rest of the comments. Fuck.

Merged double post. -Cygnus David

Maybe she is just a good swimmer & the coach knows she is also a good teacher.

Maybe he is trying to set you up... I have a real real hard time understanding what would be humiliating about getting to pair with a girl for swimming lal.
