do you know who this is? this is Keith Vidal. he was a schizophrenic 18 year old guy from North Carolina. On January 4th, Keith had a schizophrenic episode. He was getting difficult to deal with so his parents called the police to help calm him down. None of this was out of the ordinary, mind you. The police had been called before, and normally him being talked to for a while was enough to calm him down.
The policemen held him down, and all was going as it usually did. and then one of the police officers said, and i quote “We don’t have time for this” and shot Keith point blank with his parents watching.
This pisses me off, this makes me lose all faith in humanity. But most of all, this breaks my heart. We have no idea who he should have grown up to be. He was somebody’s soulmate, he could have been a dad. He could have been the man that cured cancer, or stopped a world war. he could have been something as great as a world leader, or something as simple but just as powerful as a reason for someone to wake up in the morning. He is not the only person to die is this way, and I know he won’t be the last. And that’s just cruel, and sick. And if you tell me to just accept it because there’s nothing I can do then you’re just as wrong as the policeman who killed him.
I have never, ever been so disgusted. More and more of this has been happening lately and I refuse to take it anymore. People are sick, and dumb, and suddenly I just don’t feel like being optimistic and kind to the human race anymore.

That is horrific..... Sooo glad that the police dont carry guns here....you might say "oh, well how do they controll people then" Well An Gairdai Siochanna (the Irish Police Force) is one of the most proficiant in the world, and Gun crime in Ireland is NOTHING compared to that of the States....but thats another argument for another time

Some people dont have the patience for certain things, that being said those same people and those same impatience should EXCLUDE them from certain things. How many times has you patience been an issue

Despite being a proponent of SERIOUS tightening of gun control laws, I highly doubt removing guns would effect them. They are law enforcement and will be weapon-laden --whether that be with a firearm or something trivial like a taser -- regardless of any restricting of firearms. And this is more so involving the morality of an individual person, not law enforcement as a collective. Just because they all wear the same badge and are covered in the same polyester uniform does not mean they all have ...scruples. There are some, as made especially obvious here, really shitty cops, just as there are some really shitty mailmen or Starbucks Baristas. Then there are also good ones. No matter what we do, there will always be a bad apple in the bunch. Not all cops are bad, though. I guarantee you nearly every cop would agree that was disgusting, immoral, disturbing on so many different levels. The defining word here is "policeman", don't let that ruin your optimism or the idea that law-enforcement generally give a shit, because they do.
As for the victim, that is so terrible. That one man robbed him of so much and he will never get that back. May he rest in paradise.

nobody said that law enforcement as a whole is evil or anything. if you took guns away from cops, at least in my area, it would make the job a lot less appealing to them. a lot of cops around me abuse their power and are corrupt.
i don't believe cops should have guns. at all. i lived in south korea for about six months and their policemen don't have guns, and they've been on the brink of war for quite a while now, so it'd make sense for them to have guns.
and while there still was crime, it was nowhere near what it is here.
and if they had just had a taser, it would've been a lot easier to stop them from killing the boy.
but this wasn't posted for a political debate, this was a post about a boy being shot for no good reason whatsoever.

Nope, nobody was making it a debate here. Simply putting in my two cents.

i spent most of my time in school with kids who had mental problems
and often had meltdowns - so this is like reading about this happening
to one of my school mates. this is just plain sickening and horrifying.

North Carolina is messed up. I can say this because that's where I'm from.
I've also seen where a cop was arresting an epileptic (like me) and when they started having a seizure (stress can trigger that), he just let them fall to the floor and started hitting them, saying that they were faking it.
Telling you, NC is jacked up.

i do not say stricten gun laws, as i am a gun fanatic :D but i say to make cops wear go pro cameras or such while on duty, to be used as the truth.

Or maybe the awareness of some things should be pushed up.

This should be a new rule for everyone:
If the police come into your house, film it.

The police can take whatever you film as evidence for what happened.

okay, i think that's a good idea. i'll hop on board with that. they can have guns, there just has to be a camera on them or on whoever they're "helping", and it has to be filming the whole time.

Death was the last thing on the list of what was justified to do here.

Dude, that is soo not cool at all. The police are supposed to protect the people, not murder them for something they can't control.

Honestly, the cop who did it deserves to be locked in a box till he goes mad. This is shocking. The cops here won't do that and they are pretty ill-tempered. Maybe hit him with the baton if he goes apeshit, but not fucking shoot him.

Well, I do not have (almost) any knowledge about schizophrenic/psychotic episode, but I would not call the police unless he was running around with an axe. I'm not sure how is it in the USA but here is police for dealing with thieves, robbers, car accidents etc., and not for handling schizophrenic kids.
I'm not justifying shooting innocent person in the head by a police officer, which is all kinds of fucked up, but I just find it weird to call police when you need a doctor/medications. Besides...What police officer can do that parent can't anyway? Hold him in handcuffs?

a quote from CNN's article: " "He's not doing very good. You've got to get him someplace," a man who identified himself as Vidal's stepfather said on a 911 call, a copy of which was obtained by WECT. "He wants to fight his mother. ... She's scared to death of him right now."
The caller said that Vidal "won't take his medication" and that his family has had "to put him in before, (and) he's getting real bad again." "
and, at least where i am, people normally only call the police in these situations if they become a danger to themselves or others, and in this case he was.

The parent didn't even call for cops to come. They called for someone to take him to the hospital. Not to come in and freaking shoot the kid. I don't blame anyone for being outraged. I would be too!

Honestly, I can barely believe that this is real. Why they even brought guns to that call God only knows. Also, the detective was apparently 'put on leave'. Not arrested, dismissed pending investigation, for murder at point blank range of a sick young man (OK, that's from the Mail, but it might be true). In what country is this in any way justifiable? It wasn't meaningful defence, it was because they 'didn't have time' for it.

Oh... I did not look it up on google or anything, but now I know how it was. I would call the police too if he wanted to fight his mom and refuse to take the medications.
